i bought an e400 a few months ago ($300 SD) which i thought was horrible. i like denon products but the sound quality was nothing great and cost cutting is very evident.

I just ordered from Amazon. Thanks wkcars!

Easy return if it doesn't work out. Also, $200 is about the least expensive unit to have Audyssey.

I bought one from the last deal offered by Fry's at the same price. So far I am very pleased. My last Denon lasted 12 years. When I sold it on Craigslist, I still fetched 1/2 of the price I paid for (plain old receiver without HDMI or network). I like the Audyssey MultEQ feature which automates the sound level for each speaker based on the listening location.

for the price that guy is dead wrong

for a $200 receiver it has the best sound quality of any i've heard, harman 1650 may have been a bit warmer but it didn't have the vocal detail or the features

it's absolutely better than a yamaha 365 or comparable onkyo

the entry level pioneer elite may be a better choice but it's 50-100% more money

the marantz 5000 series absolutely is better but the first really modern one of those is the 5006 and it's 450 refurbished

^Modern day Marantz receivers are overpriced anyways. They're just Denon receivers with a different chassis, an extra input or 2, and a 300% price mark-up. You're paying for the Marantz name. Both companies merged years ago (D&M Holdings) and their own technicians have confessed to using the exact same parts for both brands.

This receiver at $200 is an absolute bargain.
