Since every time one of these threads comes up, half the questions are about the ink:

The ink included with the printer are full size. the same as the Canon carts you can buy for about $120. They call them setup or starter, but they are full size. As such, if you own this printer, this is the cheapest way to get new Canon ink.

From the fine print from the rebate form:the original white “Proof of Purchase” 12-digit UPC bar code cut from the Canon PIXMA PRO-100 Photo
Printer box, leaving a hole in the box. DO NOT PEEL OFF “PROOF OF PURCHASE” STICKER

For those wondering if this is for you...
Don't forget a few things:

1) This thing is HUGE and HEAVY... 54 pounds of printing magic.
2) The inks are pricey... Canons run $100 per set and refill options are limited (not sure of price).
3) Adorama reciept states: "PLEASE NOTE: If you return an item that you ordered with free shipping, we'll deduct our shipping cost from your refund." ... so returning it is not an option unless defective (since the cost of 54lbs both ways is more $$ than eating the $40 you paid overall)
4) When cutting out the UPS/Proof of purchase, make sure to not just peel the sticker off....(per SD user Echostorm: "You can leave the corrugated part off just get enough of the brown backing with the white glossy part, I've done four without problems, this way you can still mail it < 1 oz".
5) Limit of 1 rebate per rebate period. http://rebates.usa.canon.com and click on the “Pre-submit your Rebate Claim” button to pre-submit your claim
6) You can call and request the rebate in the form of a check (see rebate for details).

Otherwise a great printer at a great price.

Yep. This will be my third. The paper is worth more than $40 and the ink can be sold on ebay for $80 - $100 (or more).

Is that what people are doing- selling the ink on ebay?

These are full size ink carts?

The first 2 that I bought were. The ones that are labeled as "setup" on ebay are cartridges from a printer

the ink/printer is very flippable, flipped the printer in the BH deal a couple weeks ago for a net of about 160 all said and done on ebay

Did you submit the first 2 in this quarter (with different reseller/promo id)?

One was last year, the second was earlier this year. I was told as long as the promotion numbers are different, they will reimburse you. I thought I was done, but they keep getting cheaper and cheaper. Canon must be coming out with a new version. Regardless, this printer prints some very nice photos.

I've looked around at the possibility of using third party ink cartridges or refillable cartridges. Also, I've looked around for a CISS, or continuous ink supply system. There seems to be a scarcity of all three. I did find some ink kits to refill existing cartridges

Would there be a cheap alternative to using canon cartridges? Otherwise, at over $100 to purchase new ink--this price includes replacing all cartridges--even at $40 this seems like it could be a waste of money, at least for some people. Why buy something like this, even for $40, when the ink could run you upwards to $100 or more a month just to run it?

If there were a viable third party ink system, it would be a very decent deal.

Also, I've looked around for information on how many 13x19 prints you can expect from full cartridges. So far, I haven't found any definitive answers. Would anyone know this? Such information would help in gauging whether third party ink systems might even be necessary.

edit: I hope I didn't come across as too cynical. I am interested in this printer. It's just that I had an Epson 1400 printer that just ate up ink, and the only way I could afford to run it was to use refillable cartridges. The refillable carts did a great job.

I see. I am not yet sure if I will go ahead with this since I just did the B&H rebate unless someone can confirm that they got multiple rebates (with different reseller/promo id) in this same quarter.
