How to add mobile number in order to get deal alerts

MermanButlers 12 10 April 3, 2014 at 11:29 AM
HI all,

two questions...

1) Are deal alerts working for mobile numbers?
2) How do you add a mobile number to your account?

On one of my (old) accounts it allows me to set alerts for mobile notifications (but I can't see what that number is, and I don't receive any alerts, hah), but this one just tells me I do not have a mobile number set up.

Your best bet is to use one of the mobile apps. With the increasing number of people with smartphones, we probably won't do SMS.

Haha, I suppose that makes a lot more sense. I guess I was just confused by the inclusion of those features on the deal alerts page.

My smartphone already has too many single-use apps... and presumably the SD mobile app needs to be frequently/constantly make use of the data connection that I usually turn off to make the battery last longer...

So there really is a value to supporting a good old SMS option

If sending SMS messages for alerts is not an option, how about sending a DM Tweet?

That should be hip and cool enough, and we can then tell twitter to forward the Tweets to SMS... that's how I get notified of new FP postings

There is a 250 DM per day limit [twitter.com] with Twitter, so no.

This was the solution we would have taken. But like I said previously, with the proliferation of smart phones, we're not going to do it anymore.

You can take a look at a service like IFTTT [ifttt.com] that can convert the emails you receive to SMS.
