Bought a Samsung Galaxy Light phone - camera problem

So this phone is brand new out of the box, when I open the camera app it gives me "unknown error occured" and then the camera app closes by itself after clicking "ok" on the error message and it goes to the home screen.
I did a factory reset several times, took out the battery, cleared cache of the camera, nothing helps.
What I noticed is that when I open the camera app I got about 3 second before I get the "unknown error occurred" message and in those 3 seconds when I change the camera to the front camera it works fine and I can even take a picture with the front camera - but when I switch it back to the rear camera - the camera app freezes and I get that error message and it closes itself and goes to the home screen.
I googled heavily and it looks like this is a common problem in some galaxy phones{Galaxy S3 especially}, and seems like rooting or flashing a rom or something fixes it - however I am not sure if there is a rom available for the Galaxy Light and cant seem to find any help on this issue.
Any one knows how to fix it?
