Verizon offers its FiOS Internet 50/25 Mbps bundled with FiOS TV Local and your choice of HBO and HBO Go or Showtime and Showtime Anytime for $50 per month with no contract required. Plus, you get free activation. That's $35 less than the cost of a 1-year subscription of FiOS 50/25 Internet alone, plus the waived activation fee is a savings of $50. It's also the first no-contract offer we've seen from Verizon in almost two years.

For those wondering how to avoid stb charges, you can connect directly to a TV that has a qam tunner, I have not done this at my place but did it at my parents for the kitchen TV. Just plug in the coax and in the menu do an auto search for cable channels. You will get all the local channels in hd but will not get HBO or showtime.

Check if your house is FiOS Ready - http://www.verizon.com/home/MLP/FiOSready.html

Your address MUST be FiOS Ready to qualify for $39.99 50/25 deal.

Me: I'm shopping around for internet service and I heard you offer fios internet 50/25 for $39.99 with 2-yr agreement in some markets
Chat Agent: You have the correct information. We do offer FiOS Quantum 50/25 Mbps Internet plan for $39.99/mo before taxes with 2 year agreement for FiOS ready locations.
Me: Can I have the definition of FiOS ready?
Chat Agent: With FiOS ready location, you will get "self installation" option.
Chat Agent: May I have the complete address where the service will be working, please?
Me: My address is .......
Chat Agent: Your location qualifies for FiOS services but it's not FiOS ready location.
Chat Agent: We do offer 50 for 50 deal at the moment. You can get "FiOS TV Local + FiOS Quantum 50/25 Mbps internet" + HBO/Showtime for only $50/mo with "month to month" option.

Is there a way to "downgrade" to this service without paying a huge ETF?

I have Fios Triple play and NEVER use the phone service and very, very rarely use TV.

This would save me $50/month that could be going to student loans or something.

Great deal. I pay more for that for my Cox Internet alone. Cox bastards.... I hate that I can't get FiOS.

Since it's only local channels, can you get away with just using the built-in QAM tuner on your HDTV instead of having to pay extra to rent boxes?

Can I cancel my existing services and switch to this one? I don't have a contract, but all my promotional credits expire this month so I am looking for something new.

So this doesn't include regular cable TV channels - looks to be just locals and movie channels. Probably catering to that new "watch everything online" demographic.

I have this - and YES your TV will decide the HD channels with its own QAM tuner. No Verizon rep could answer that question for me before my purchase, so I gambled and did it anyway. Worked out! No set top boxes needed. It's freakin' awesome... And cheap!!

I signed up last week. On top of the fios modem/router fee, there's a tv converter fee of $5 (after discount). Add $10 to upgrade to 75mbps.

Free install though!

I hope this offer sticks around for a bit. I'm moving in May to a FiOS-wired property.

TV converter fee? I had this previously and the only thing I paid for was the service plus about $2 in taxes (Dallas area). They will let you use your own router but they'll need to pull the ethernet through the ONT.
