Don't wait for Windows Phone 8.1 update (do it at your own risk, some apps may not be compatible)
http://winsupersite.com/windows-p...n-possible

Windows Phone 8.1 update Summary:
1. For this you need to sign in with your Windows account to "App Studio" [windowsphone.com] as developer
2. Then install the "Preview for Developers" [windowsphone.com] app to your phone
3. Open the app on your phone and sign in
4. Go to Settings> Check for Updates
you should get an update notification. Takes about 10 minutes (varies)

Details are here: http://winsupersite.com/windows-p...dset-today

For Nokia 521 (T-Mobile), migrating to Win8.1 took 3 OS updates (over Black update):
1- Update to 8.0.10521.155 (takes 5-10 minutes)
2- Update to 8.0.10532.166 (checking for this update took for 5-10 minutes, if stuck turn off/on your phone) 20-30 min
3- Update to 8.10.12359.845 (WP8.1) 20-30 min

The whole experience with breaks takes over 1.5 hours so charge the phone beforehand or keep it plugged in to the charger.

I know a guy who works for Microsoft who had a Lumia 925. Now he has an iPhone 5C....... He might be mentally retarded.

I really like Windows Phone. The only thing holding me back from getting a nice one is the lack of Google Apps...... I can't do without good Google Apps.... I have a Lumia 521 just to sate my Windows Phone desire. Let's put it this way I've only had my SIM in it for one day. Other than that it's sat on the counter plugged in waiting for one of my Android phones to die and it may get off the bench for once.

It's a pain getting these unlocked, that's my only concern with the Lumia phones. Unless you have had an ATT account for 6 months.

What would att have to do with a T-Mobile Lumia 925?

I'm pretty sure they just meant to say T-Mobile, bc I believe it is TMo's policy to only unlock phones after 6 month of service if requested.

I'm thinking of getting this for my wife. She complains about her S3 so much. Ever since the 8.1 dev preview I loaded up the other day, i'd say this would be a good replacement. Apps will come in due time.

I've got one. Probably the best all around windows phone available right now, unless you want a phablet (get a 1520 or an Icon) or outrageous camera (get a 1020).

Only app I wish was available was a SiriusXM app. Otherwise, everything that I need is available, and most things are baked right into the OS. I'm looking forward to the WP8.1 update, which looks really interesting in a couple of preview vids I watched.

If you own the phone outright it's 50 or 60 days on the network and add 50 bucks in refill ( about 2x the cost of 3rd party unlockers). That's about as hassle free as you can get.

I bought one at $230 and haven't regretted it. 199 is amazing for what you get. It is NIGHT and DAY better than the 520/521 and my wife's HTC Amaze.

Phone feels and looks like a high end phone and every option I could think of, most of which I never use (NFC, wireless charging, FM radio

Pros
-great camera
-great screen
-here maps (offline voice navigation GPS for free)
-nokia mixradio (like a pandora app)

Cons
-app selection (not a con for me as I get Kindle, Whatsapp, Evernote, Instagram, Camscanner, Plex and use mobile sites of most missing ones like Uber)

If I'm used to an android phone will I like this or hate this?

In the past I bought a windows 8 laptop and hated it so much I returned it, and bought/paid more for a windows 7 business laptop.

Windows 8.1 preview now available on all windows phone 8 devices, makes the platform so much more attractive. I moved to iOS for better reminders and hands free operations, but WP8 has definitely caught up and possibly more (world record for fastest keyboard using new Swype-like technology).

Oh and you can use basic voice commands via Cortana without being connected to the internet: "Open <App>" , "Play <Song> by <Artist>", "Turn off Wifi", etc works completely offline, which is really good for those who wanna use this phone on a cheaper plan. Commands that involve transcribing audio like "Text James Do you wanna get dinner?" won't work without internet though.
