Thread Details

So I got a letter from Chase that my account was being changed over to a Visa card. Did anyone else get this? Chase said that all cards are being migrated to visa eventually. I really really dislike visa, I haven't used a visa card in over 5 years, so I think I'm going to have to go back to my Discover IT card. This also really puts a damper on my masterpass account.

On a side note, does anyone know of any other no-annual-fee rewards cards that could rival chase freedom or discover IT that I can get in MasterCard format?

Here is the response I got from Chase CR

Dear XXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Chase about your account ending
in XXXX.

As part of our expanded relationship with Visa, MasterCard
credit and debit cards are being replaced with Visa cards.
The account cannot be switched back to MasterCard. I
apologize for the inconvenience.

I would like to inform you that Visa is widely accepted by
merchants all over the world, so you?ll be able to use
your new card at most places, just like your MasterCard
card. There may be some merchants who don?t accept Visa
cards, like Sam?s Club. A debit card or another Chase
credit card may be accepted when you shop those places.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the

Thank you,

Are they preventing you from getting a MasterCard from BofA or CitiBank?

MasterCard is accepted more than Visa. Also if you use MasterPass you kind of have to have a MasterCard

Sams Club is the only place I can think of that only accepts MasterCard?

Damn...

My Freedom is a MasterCard as well.
My Ink is a MasterCard.
My NYG Chase Debit card is MasterCard.

I'd prefer none of them change as various merchants (namely Sam's Club) doesn't accept Visa. It won't affect Sam's Gas, which would be a primary concern for the 5% quarters, but it will force me to use another account inside the store.

It isn't a terrible issue, but annoying more than anything.

I assume this will also mean a card number change.

Exactly, and I happen to shop there. Therefore MasterCard is more accepted than Visa.

This combined with the garbage Chase pulled on us last year by cutting benefits for Chase Checking customer's on the freedom card (10 cents per transaction)

I really want to switch back to Discover, but then I have the same problem as a Visa, it's not accepted everywhere like a MasterCard.

My end game is to get a card that rivals Freedom in a MasterCard format.

Get the barclays arrival mastercard for the 40k bonus and downgrade to the No annual fee version when the time comes.

If you travel even occasionally thats like $440 cash back right out the gate.

If you cancel the card as a Master Card, and then resign up for a new card which is issued as a visa, you are usually eligible for the sign on bonus again from Chase. YMMV, but there is a long history of precedence of this occurring. This is huge for cards like the ink bold and ink plus where you get another 50k UR points.

You got a letter in the mail? When? I've received no such thing and my Freedom MC is my main card. Odd.

I think they are sending them when your card is about 6 months away from expiring as my card expires in November.

This is a bit of a pain in the a$$ but it works.

Usually there's a Walmart next door to Sams Club (at least for the ones in my area).

Go into Walmart.
Buy Walmart gift card using any method of payment (Amex, Visa, etc)
Use Walmart gift card at Sams Club.

I do this because the company I work for uses Amex as our corporate card. So whenever I have to buy anything for the company from Sams Club I just figure out how much it'd cost, then go get a gift card.

Seems like buying gift cards on corporate credit cards might raise a red flag. But I do agree with this for personal cards. I actually did this when trying to meet a min spend and had to buy a bed a sam's.

I don't think that's true. I see them frequently accepted together at most places. AMEX is the least.

I like having my Mastercard from Chase for Sam's Club. I haven't gotten a letter yet, but as alluded to below, they are probably waiting for my card to expire.

Freedom MC isn't bad, but after analyzing for several years, I've found the Fidelity Amex and Visa to offer as good or better cash back with a flat 2% from Amex and 1.5% (that becomes 2% after $15K annual spend each year) on the Visa.

That's probably what is going on. Mine doesn't expire til next year, so I will probably get it closer to then.

I don't think experience really matters for a president. My point is that you can't really use his own words from 4 years ago against him.
