Deal Details

This is my first post, so be gentle.

I was needing a server for a client and my mothers business and notice that Dell has the Poweredge T110 II for $449 with $200 off instantly. I thought it was a great deal. Bump it to an i3 for even better processor for $58.

I started scrolling down the page to see if I could remove anything to make it cheaper, and noticed the Mouse / keyboard and 17in monitor was only a $12.29 addon.

So in conclusion, Dell Poweredge T110 Core i3-2120, 2gb ram, 500gb SATA, mouse / keyboard and 17in LCD for $352 shipped.

Coupon is 1KMK5Z5NQGVCTX expires 5/2 or with a max of 400 uses.

It would make a good starting NAS at home with Windows/Unraid or even a good Plex server if you don't want transcoding, or just pick up the fastest Xeon proc off ebay that will fit in it and upgrade it to transcode with no issues.

Should of included a link to the server

You might could build cheaper, but they are decent looking boxes. Quality. I have a few at work here and they have worked great. You could pick up a H310 raid card off ebay for $65 if you needed redundancy.

I just ordered 2. I think is a fairly good deal, especially if you want to build your own NAS / server at home without ordering different parts and building it yourself.

It doesn't come with an OS, but you can install Ubuntu or something else on it. I'll be using Win7 on both of them as i'm using one for an application server and one as a file server for quickbooks.

does the included RAM support ECC? It's a must for me as I'm trying to build a ZFS RAIDZ2 server.

how loud are they? I'm using an old Optiplex 755 as my home server. It only has 2x slots for 3.5 Int HDD.

Not loud at all with the side on. You take it off and the bios notices and speeds up the fans A LOT.

FYI - the Pentium version of the i3 chips support ECC - while the i3 chips support Hyperthreading. It's a trade-off.

2 Generations old i3?

For around the same price you could get a Lenovo TS140 (current gen i3, 4GB Ram) + 1TB hard drive for the around the same price. Granted, you wouldn't get a 17" LCD... but that is very small for most applications.

$310 (TS140 http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Thin...B00F6EK9J2)
$50 (any 1TB hard drive -- maybe this? http://www.amazon.com/WD-Blue-Des...0088PUEPK/)

Insanely quiet, great build quality.

Edit: the TS140 is on sale at CDW for $223 http://slickdeals.net/f/6866172-223-tax-shipping-cdw-lenovo-thinkserver-ts140-tower-server-system?v=1

Just a heads up - If you place the order you will see in the confirmation that it doesn't actually come with a screen...

You can try taking a screenshot of the order details prior to ordering and fight it out later, but may not work

Since its a server, I'd hope so. Haven't checked though. But servers are supposed to support ECC ram. I just came across an ebay seller that sells used servers for really good deals, haven't bought any yet, but am thinking that's where I am going to buy my next server from.
