MetroPCS just released the LG Optimus L70 for $49.

[metropcs.com]

Update: Just received mine today 4/23/14, got unlock code from eBay in less than a minute and is up and running on Lycamobile. On first boot got an update from MetroPCS, the screen and overall experience is much better than the crappy Alcatel Fierce I used to have. To enter the unlock code with different carrier SIM card inserted follow these instructions:

Code:
Use NCK or SPCK (see what your phone asks for)
How to enter unlock code (General Method for most LGs)
1. POWER PHONE ON WITHACCEPTED SIM CARD
2. SELECT DIAL PAD
3. DIAL 2945#*323# PRESS SEND
4. DIAL ONE OF THE CODES PROMPTED FOR. (Only Enter Digits)

SPCK=SERVICE PROVIDER CODE KEY
NCK=NETWORK CODE KEY

$0 after rebate is DEAD.
YMMV because it is not available in all states.

Please do not post EBay links that are not within our guidelines.

Unlock your phone here for $1.40. [unlockscout.com] Found them on ebay as awv-online [ebay.com], but they have a direct link to their site in the auction. Surprised no one has reported them, but who am I to judge. Have unlocked two phones with them so far, and I have gotten the emails in less than 5 minutes. A few others in the thread have done it already as well. Quick and painless.*

* I used unlockscout only once and didn't receive an unlock or a response about a refund. Instead I recommend Swiftunlocks with actual support pages and staff.
You want the SP_LOCK code for the Service Provider Unlock.

REALLY?!?!->Please do not refer L70 spec from any current phone sites, just yet! Metropcs L70 version model number is MS323, NOT D320 nor D325.
Official Specs: http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/...ptimus-l70

it's confirmed by JSquare it can be unlocked

------------------------------------
Per http://androidforums.com/l70-all-...ost6605901, http://towelroot.com/ will root the MetroPCS L70.Confirmed on my brand-new L70-MS323 dated 06/03/2014, S/W V10b.
Use SuperSU from http://forum.xda-developers.com/a...1402894339.

The OTA update seems to be from V10a to V10b, and V10b rooted. Still need confirmation that it would root after OTA update.
------------------------------------

Look at http://mobilecon.info/disable-mlt...phone.html for some information on MLT and disabling it to keep big brother out and save memory. See also http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2192012

Quote :
MLT it self is an application that collect information from phone user concerning porn, suicide, violence, etc. (source: http://technoblimp.com/2013/08/17...formation/)
------------------------------------
Look for sdfix on play store that should help your apps obtain writing privileges to an SD card (KitKat issue).

------------------------------------
There is information about several topics including removal of MetroPCS bloat and use of SD card memory at http://unleashedprepaids.com/forum-1519.html.

------------------------------------
There is information about moving apps to an SD card at http://forum.xda-developers.com/s...?t=2773123 (long thread but the info is there).

------------------------------------
Software update is available (doesn't change Android version from 4.4.2), which can be done using WIFI (no sim card required). Instructions at (use the "over the air" method): http://www.lg.com/us/support/prod...7233282289

------------------------------------

Frequency:
source http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/...ptimus-l70
Quad-Band/Dual-Mode*
GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz*

Based on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell...ted_States
ATT and its MVNO(H2O airvoice etc) 850mhz 4g/3g is fine
Tmobile and its MVNO(Ptel lycamobile etc) 2100mhz is missing, 1900mhz only. So only the area tmobile refarmed could pick up hspa+ 4g/3g signal.

Please confirm with the information,thanks

I emailed MetroPCS about gifting the $49 L70 without activation and the response was "Thank you for contacting MetroPCS. You will NOT be charged any additional fees. If you have any other questions, please contact MetroCare directly at 1-888-863-8768 or by dialing *611 from your MetroPCS phone. A MetroCare representative will be able to verify the information and assist you with resolving this matter."

Does this require a contract?
How much is "unlimited" talk, text, and data per month compared to Straight Talk's $45/month?

Like the other MetroPCS phone deals no contract required for the $49 price, if you are a new customer the rebate will make it $0, MetroPCS PLANS [metropcs.com].

No unlocker so far, since this phone was just released it may take few days for an unlocker to come out.

This or f6 for 50$ more? The f6 is LTE but no KitKat. Besides that it seems like a similar phone unless I am missing something.

What would someone unlock this for? International use? Metro runs on Tmobile network and is cheaper. Is there a benefit to putting this on T-Mobile instead?

Wasn't this phone just announced in MWC 2014? Also, every source online seems to suggest this to be a dual-sim phone, and I know for a fact that carriers in the US wouldn't sit well with that. This phone from MPCS is most probably not dual-sim, but was curious why no one online list this version..

Just got the Alcatel One Touch Fierce. This looks nice if unlocked. Probably better screen angles but lower resolution. This probably had a better camera. Lg quality for ten more dollars.

Thanks. I checked out walmarts plan. Its actually 39.99 for unlimited data plan...throttled after 2.5 gigs. Metro is 39.99 throttled after 500mb. So Walmart seems better except check out the Walmart fine print. It says 3g "speeds." Do they allow 4g lte on the Walmart plan?

FYI, from the T&C:

Quote :
"activate MetroPCS service on a $50 per month or higher rate plan at a participating MetroPCS corporate or authorized dealer store or by calling *228 from your MetroPCS phone and port-in your existing phone number"
Porting you existing number and killing your current carrier commitment required for MIR?
