alternatively, you could buy the seagate 600 pro (entry level enterprise SSD with a 5 year warranty) for the exact same price (with free shipping) at tigerdirect.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applic...CatId=5300

$139.99.

evo is a good drive, but it's hard to justify paying the same for it as you are for the 600 pro (unless you qualify for the 10% coupon, in which case it's slightly more justified)

I don't get it, it says $154.99? Are you assuming the shell shocker deal is bringing it to or below $140? I thought you could not apply a coupon towards a shell shocker?

The deal hasn't posted yet. Current price is $154.99, check back at 1PM EST, price will drop to $139.99, apply coupon code BTEPFHW36 drops price to $125.99

FRONTPAGE DEAL FOR SURE.

You really should read up on the 600 Pro -- its not intended for desktop usage scenarios and the firmware isn't optimized for it, not to mention it sucks a lot of power at idle which is a dealbreaker for laptops.

The EVO also comes with goodies like RAPID in Samsung Magician.

I'm well aware of it's intended use, it will still work absolutely fine in desktops. It also uses the exact same amount of power at idle as a 7200 rpm HDD does (and slightly more than a 5400 rpm HDD).

I seriously doubt you'll see a real world difference between the 600 pro and the EVO on desktop use, but a 5 year warranty on a SSD with better binned nand may come in handy

For those people using ultrabooks or other laptops where power is a serious concern, the Evo is a better choice though.

Is that the coupon targeted? Not everyone can get 10% discount, how can it come FP with $140 and may be YMMV?

It IS targeted, I tried to use it to check and was unsuccessful. Is there a way around that?

I agree. Unless you're targeted for the 10%, $140 isn't a Hot Deal on the 250 GB Samsung 840 EVO, which makes this YMMV and not suitable as an FP deal.

It's hovered around $130 several times at other retailers.

$126 w/ the 10% is a good price though.

For you penny pinchers...I picked up this Crucial M500 240GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm Internal Solid State Drive CT240M500SSD1 for $114.29 on Amazon. Didn't want to spend the extra $ for a Samsung.

You guys who use ssd's, you only store the OS on the SSD and the data of regular drives right? Price is much cheaper to hold data on a regular drive. 1tb for 70 bucks as opposed to probably 450 ssd.

wouldn't it make sense to get the smallest gb ssd and get a huge regular drive for storage?
