Bypass galaxy s4 mini activation screen verizon

xxtraloud 384 22 April 22, 2014 at 08:29 AM
I am in the process of renewing my contract with Verizon and will be getting an s4 mini. I haven't gotten the phone yet but from what I understand I will need to activate it once I receive it. Before I activate the phone and start paying for the data I would like to play with it for a while and also try it with a European sim card. In the meantime I will keep using my previous phone until I am ready to switch. Can this be done?

I have seen a video online to bypass the activation screen for s3 and was wondering if there is a similar procedure for the Verizon s4 mini. Is it possible to root perhaps? I never had a smart phone but I have jailbroken a couple of e-readers.

I have asked on the android forum but got no reply

thanks

What is your concern here and the reason why you are wanting to play before activation if you intend to keep the phone yourself?

The data concen can easily be "fixed" by being on wifi. You likely won't have a problem with the European Sim (If other Verizon LTE phones are any indication) although you won't be able to test much without having that network around.

Jailbreaking is only for iOS devices. I would advise not rooting just because and only root if you need to. 99% of people (Even enthusiasts) don't need to root these days.

What android forum did you ask on?

thanks for the reply, I don't need to root, I thought maybe was a solution. Basically I want to be able to see if I like to phone and use it daily for a while before I am forced into the data plan. Also I will traveling to Europe for 3 months and doesn't make sense for me to pay data when I am not in the us. If I don't like it I can give it to another person in the family plan and that she can activate the data.

I asked on android central and xda developers.

With Verizon you have 15 days to return a phone I am pretty sure and get something else. So your not coming from a smartphone now on verizon? The phone will be under contract right? On our business account I can put a phone on "hold" and not be billed basically. It just extends the contract those 3 months. It might be worth a call to VZW to see if you can do something similar.

If you put in the European Sim and booted it, it wont be able to contact the VZW network and activate but maybe it allows you to bypass. If it won't work I would think it would fail. It would basically be the equivalent of having no service? I don't have any experience with this but I think the risks of trying are small.

correct I don't have a smartphone I have a Verizon contract without data. and I have a European sim. I don't need to get on the Verizon network with the smartphone for the next 3-4 months. Will it bypass the activation if I pop in my European sim?

tap the corners of the screens (start with top left and go clock wise) and it will bypass the welcome setup. I have done it to a few devices not on a plan before.

If you have the euro sim in place (Highly suggested you buy a local one when you are there, for a better price) and your not on wifi there is no way for the phone to call home.

You don't have to activate it to start being charged for the data plan. As far as I know, if you choose to upgrade and take the 2 year contract they start charging you. So keeping the phone and not using it you are still paying.
