Looks like this has attracted the bottom feeder resellers buying up 5 at a time.

Amazing how this camera, even TWO YEARS after its release, is a deal at $400. I sold one with a marked up screen for $390 a few months ago. Can't believe nobody else has attempted a competitor.

Cameras with sensors on the larger side will hold up good to time.

if i'm not a professional photog, should i get this over the rx100 ii?

Key differences I know of are the hot shoe, tilting lcd, and better low light sensor. Is it worth the extra ~$300 for the rx100 ii?

All want is nice photos of family vacations.

As long as you are not planning to do a lot of selfies of yourself or the family together, this should be fine laugh out loud. If you are then the tilting lcd would definitely help.

This camera is a compelling package, as a ready to go setup. It produces convincingly awesome images and i get why it still goes used for as much as it does. I've heard from several people that they never want to sell it and intend to use it until it dies. I wouldn't spend more than this on a camera like it however. The mk2 version is just swimming in shark infested waters of much more powerful cameras.

For a lot less than $300 more you could get a NEX 5n [keh.com] and a sigma 35mm lens [amazon.com]. For $475 you'll get superior dynamic range and contrast, and all the benefits that come from a sensor 4x the size. That 35mm lens is also MUCH sharper than almost any other lens out there(for being cheap, it tests nearly as well as $1000 leica primes and stuff in that league)this [keh.com] is also a compelling deal, but then you'll need a zoom lens(ie one of the cheap 16-50 [keh.com] units from here).

So yea, as a tl;dr yes this should be fine. But i think you would be doing yourself a disservice to spend any more than $400 on a compact camera like this. the 1.8 lens is a bit overhyped because it's bolted onto to such a small sensor. You don't really get the kind of light sensitivity or shallow depth of field capabilities you'd get from even a 2.8 on a larger sensor like the nex.
