Thread Details

EDIT 2: BASED ON INFO PRESENTED IN THIS THREAD, PRODUCT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY A FAKE. BEWARE!

Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti 2GB 384Bit DDR3 PCI-E

Through Y'allstore on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-2GB-3...0878031913

Did see one at least one sale of this commented on in seller's feedback. Apparently it was legit and it's a generic/reference board (?)

EDIT: Be aware that this auction seems a bit suspect, since the specs don't match what a GTX 650 Ti should have. Or maybe it's a newly developed cheaper version with lower quality components.

I found some more info:

easy-taobao.com/taobao/view/id/20820411598

It's being passed of as GTX 660 TI sometimes. There's even:

a GPU-Z screenshot [taobaocdn.com]

and an NVIDIA Inspector screenshot. [onliner.by]

Here's a discussion about it: http://www.tomshardware.com/answe...-info.html

According to there, it's most likely a much older GTX 8800, which gets 784 on PassMark [videocardbenchmark.net], much lower than the recent $35 Radeon HD 6670 which gets 1K+.

In here [tomshardware.com], the fake cards don't work with NVIDIA drivers, just the driver that comes in the DVD.

Please add to the topic that this is most likely an older card that costs less than half of $70, possibly $10-20, so nobody should buy it really.
sh*t this is cheating! Obviously these were much older cards (not kepler, or even fermi, but a much older generation), with modified BIOS which cheats driver and therefore shows up as a kepler card. Looking at the BIOS version number I can tell it's at least 3 generation older than the most recent NV cards.

Asked the seller a question. I think they're either lying or don't realize they're selling a fake...

Dear yallstore,

I'd like to confirm which product this actually is.

Description says GTX650, but photos show a sticker that says GTX650Ti.

Also, the Nvidia GeForce GTX650 cards are generally 128-bit with GDDR5 memory.

The images they use seem to be pulled from here: http://www.superstoremarket.com/g...-card.html

I'm not sure what to make of this deal... I have my $15 eBay coupon burning a hole in my wallet, and this is tempting but suspicious.
Should have used the $15 coupon for the 128 GB SSD that was on ebay daily steal by newegg =)

First, go to the item listing and click "Report Item" link on the middle right:
Code:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380878031913
eBay has a strict policy against counterfeit items. Open a case through eBay first, PayPal second, then as a last resort, credit card chargeback if funded by CC.

Link to this SlickDeals thread that we investigated this exact item listing and determined that it is counterfeit.

Don't forget to mention the huge differences from the official NVIDIA specs, especially the 128-bit GDDR5 official, versus the 384-bit DDR3 fake for the GTX 650:
Code:
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-650/specifications
If the seller gets banned, the easier for you to escalate the case. Although I doubt eBay would ban Yallstore since it's a significant income source for them as well, despite Yallstore being notorious in Google for fraudulent practice/counterfeit items sold as original.

The simplest way is to remove the fan/heat sink and check the GPU chip directly. If it is a real GTX 650Ti, you will see something like "GK104-xxx-xx". Below is an example.

GK104 means it's a Kepler series GPU. If it is not, it's a fake card.

From a review in a similar fake GTX 680 (similar stats to fake GTX 650):
Code:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/GTX-680-Ti-2G-2048MB-384bit-DDR3-PCI-E-NVIDIA-Geforce-Desktop-PC-Game-Video-Graphic/1419181264.html
"Ready to expect that dear seller was is wrong informed by supplier about quality of goods;instead of declared GTX 680 Ti 2G 2048MB 384bit DDR3 PCI-E NVIDIA Geforce on video chip GK104 - I have got SOMETHING on video chip G94 (on result of the testing) so this video card did not correspond to the technical parameter specified in most name and was not determined on official put the producer.Delivery passed in current 14-20 days following payment.Very distressed result of the buying - hoped to gain the good product, but has got the forgery and has spent in am empty so much time!!!! "
by ALIAKSANDR K.

So it's most likely a G94 chip. Although chip labels are trivial to fake as well.

Right, that's a G94. The bios version string is 62.94.xx... the first field typically tells the generation, and the second field tells what specific chip it is within the generation. so 70.xx means fermi, 80.xx means kepler. A real GK104 chip would come with a bios of version 80.04.xx....

Hmm... I wonder if they removed the model number somehow. Sneaky sneaky.

Another possibility (which is even worse) is that they used test chips to make the cards. Sometimes test chips do not have the final chip code name printed on them. see below

http://images.hardwarezone.com/up...faca99.jpg

Did you see hand written numbers (like in the picture) on the chip board? If yes then it's almost certain a test chip.

you may also want to take a pic of it and let's see if we can find anything ...

And maybe even benchmark it. While we may not be able to ID it, it might be interesting to see how well it performs.

Run this utility after you install the card, and it should tell you exactly what you have.

GPU-Z won't help here. If the card can cheat driver (thus showing up as a GTX 650ti), GPU-Z will show the same thing.
