FIOS - how can new promo be more expensive than what i have now...
my 2 year contract expires on May 19. After reading thru pages and pages of how to renew on slickdeals and internet, i have tried many different methods to beat the pricing that i have.
Right now, i am paying 82 / month (includes $10 verizon connections) for triple play AFTER all the fees/taxes. That includes, PrimeTV + ShowTime + 1DVR + 1 SD Box + Phone + 25/25 internet + Router. My MultiRoom DVR is free for life when i signed up 2 years ago. (I shouldnt have, i should have taken the giftcard back then)
THe new promotion nowadays, are 79.99 but you have to pay equipment fees, and i am shocked that you even have to rent a router for 5 bucks a month from them. With 1 Mutlroom DVR + 1 TV Box + Router, that itself is about 32 bucks (19.99 + 7.99 + 4.99).
If i change to my wife's name, and factor in the $50 self install giftcard + 300 Visa Gift Card, the cost is still 80 + 32 - 14 (this is based on 350/24mth) = 98 NOT including taxes and fees.
If i go to my verizon fios account page, and see what they are offering to me for renewal, the cheapest combination i found was "Retain my current agreement"
- 25/25 internet // same as current speed - which i am fine with
- Select TV // drop from Prime TV + Free showtime
For 64.99 / first month and 94.99 2nd to 24th month. If i choose New 2 Year contract, for 25/25, Select TV and phone - it became 69.99 for first mth and 94.99 for month 2 to 24. (HOw can lock in 2year be more expensive then current agreement....?) These pricing already included Verizon connection $10 discount. So after tax and fees, i am looking at about 100 dollars / mth.
Comparing the 2 options i have,
1) brand new account - after giftcard factored in - about 98 bucks which comes with 1 DVR, 1 Box, Phone, 25/25 internet, Prime TV.
2) existing account - which has free dvr for live - about 100 bucks which comes with 1 DVR, 1 box, Phone, 25/25, Select TV.
I have not yet called CSR yet, i have been thinking what is the best strategy to get the best deal before my contract ends.
Would you just retain current agreement and wait for a sweet fios deal and renew? It looks like all those 79.99 deals does not include free requipment anymore - is that true?
My contract is up in July. Guess I'd better start doing my research now?
I might have to play the switching game and grab the Directv deal from Costco.
I'm paying around $255 per month now for FiOS Triple Play with 2 multi-rooms and 2 HD boxes. 50/35, phone, and UltimateHD with all the premium movie channels.
I was paying $150-160 per month for Directv and another $100 for FiOS HSI and phone, so I'm basically back to where I was. When I first switched I was saving about $90 per month, but all the discounts are gone and I'm back up to full price. Was a nice savings at first.
Stimulating the economy, one slick deal at a time!
If I tolerate something, I'm showing tolerance.
So, if I ignore something am I then showing ignorance?
