Never heard of this place. Is it in store only? How is the quality of their tent? Need one for the kids. Closest store to me is 77 miles away.

You may not have these stores in your area, but I can vouch for them big time. They are basically a bare-bones discount food store, BUT they do not carry crap at all. Most everything they sell is of good basic quality.

Why? The store is of GERMAN ownership. It's owned by the brother of the German guy who owns Trader Joes. I bought food in them in Germany years ago.

The also carry a rotating smattering of non-food items, and this stuff is also always of good to excellent quality, including at times electronics and even laptops and digital cameras.

Check them out if you've never been. You just might be pleasantly surprised. The only stuff I'd avoid is most (but not all) of their "fresh" produce, which, because of their way of doing things as low cost as possible, just really isn't the best.

I was interested in the cot. Anyone see this in person? There is virtually no info online. I'm guessing it's a low quality one, but what size is it? Is the frame made of steel or aluminum? Does it list a weight rating on the box?

I haven't bought much from Aldi, but my experience is different than the other person who replied. When they have non-grocery items featured, they are usually really cheap -- price and quality wise. Tents in this price range, especially no name brand ones like this, usually leak through the seams in the rain. If it's just a play tent for the kids, should be fine, but if they will use it over and over for camping, I'd get a name-brand, highly rated one like Eureka or LL Bean. It'll be more expensive, but worth it, because if you and your stuff gets wet during a camping trip, it can be miserable and you'll likely not like camping. Also, if you buy from LL Bean and it ever leaks, you can return it for a new one.

I bought a cot and a tent from Aldie's a few years ago. Tent quality was on par with low end tents from walmart / kmart. Survived two seasons of boy scout camping before one of the corner stake loops ripped. The real killer on the low end tents are the fiberglass frame poles in extreme temperatures. 90+ in the sun or below freezing is very hard on the thin fiberglass.

The cot was lighter but less sturdy than cots from the Sportsman's Guide. It is halloed aluminum and while it has never collapsed on me it does wiggle a lot when I flip over or move around.

So I'd say.... light duty camping a few times a year. YES! Hard use camping or extreme temperatures, no. Boy Scouts - get a used classic Eureka Timberline, solid tent that will last 20 years.

Aldi's is awesome. They pay their workers something like $12+ an hour plus benefits, which is unheard of for a grocery store.

I saw it in the store but, of course, it was not set up to get a good look. What concerned me is that the rain-fly does not extend out over the windows increasing the likelihood of rain entering the tent. I found a review online of this or a similar tent which goes into the pros and cons. http://oakengearbox.blogspot.com/...-tent.html

I bought the self inflating sleeping pad and the 7.99 chair. Can't speak to the quality as they were gifts, but A self inflating sleeping pad for $20 is a pretty good deal. I also picked up a 9' patio umbrella for $20.

On June 15 Aldi is going to have the Coleman Go Dome 4 person tent for $34.99. 9' x 7' with carry bag and what looks like a rain fly in the photo. I can't tell if it has any windows (doesn't look like it). Any thoughts on quality/features?

Note: the only way I can get this to show up on Aldi's site is to type in "tent" in the search box.
