Has SD led anyone to hate capitalism (more)?

90% of the time I try to use the "deals" posted on here, I learn the hard way that the products aren't worth it and/or the places selling them treat customers like serfs. I just got a melted ice cream sandwich and a cancellation from Uber eats shortly after chatting with Amazon about how to return one of their *basic* patio heaters that quit working after one use. (I have to disassemble it, pay for a box to pack it in, figure out a way to hoist it into my car, and haul it into a store to get a refund). What I wouldn't give for a company that pays their CEOs a reasonable wage and focuses on actually providing goods and services.

What did you do with defective products in the days B.A. (before Amazon)? Did you demand that the store refund or exchange them without having to actually physically return the product?

Say you're lazy without saying you're lazy...

Let me know what physical mailing address I can reach you at to invoice you for wasting my time.

I work 90+ hours a week for a non-profit. If you think it's reasonable for companies to charge you for things that don't work or services they won't actually provide, cool.

On the invoice, since you just wasted my time and were, umm, not exactly kind, glad to be generous and not charge you Smilie Have a good one

Nah, but in the days before Amazon, things came assembled, they were usually delivered by people with full-time jobs at the store you bought then from, they tended to actually work, you could call the store if something went wrong, and there would be someone there who knew something about what they sold and you could often get help, all of this saving you time, energy, and happiness. And no, I am not as old as that sounds, lol. Anyway, glad you're happy with things Smilie

Working for a non-profit does not make you a saint. Working 90+ hours a week, unless you're being considerably compensated for it, also will only lead to your own downfall and is not sustainable for anybody.... doctors, finance bros, military, etc.

Second, has Amazon refused the return?

Yes...

... and the next time you go to the bathroom, look in the mirror at who changed that.

People complain about the "good ol' days" with airlines, cars, services, but they also forget how much those services costed.

In the good ole days, there was no internet, cell phones, cable, streaming services.... most houses had a single car.... pleasure travel was only for those doing well b/c airline routes were regulated on pricing.....

You are remembering something that existed and cost a lot more than it does today.

Also, you can still have people do everything that you want.... come to your house, setup your heater, take it apart and back if it doesn't work... but generally you're paying more for that product and white glove service.

You're on a site called "Slickdeals" for bargain shopping customers.... you have champagne tastes with a beer budget.

I know many in agriculture that work more than that (including me during calving and haying/few months combined). And, compensation hardly reflects it.

Agreed! A lot of us work really, really hard and, if you broke it down to an hourly rate…well, best not to, maybe. Thanks for what you do.

Love my job, grateful for it, wouldn't trade it for anything, and while not a saint, I definitely feel happy about and proud of what I get to do.

Whatever any of us does for a living, I still do think that large companies who pay their chief officers exorbitant wages and bonuses should shift those resources into making products that work and providing the services they say they're going to provide. And I think it's important to talk about it when they don't.

And no, Amazon hasn't refused the return, so long as I spend 2 hours disassembling the giant faulty product they sent me, find (giant) packaging somewhere for it to go in, spend more time packing it, and figure out a way to get it in my car to ship it back to them.

Their acceptance of the return wasn't the point of this post, though.

You can still do things that way, you know. If you're so unhappy with the Amazon/Ubereats world, go back to what you know and like.

In the end, OP, you have to ask yourself one simple question:

Is 20 pound for the weight like 30 pounds if a guy lifts?
No gym for home, work out floor with 30, but is it for 20 like 30 lb when you no lift it to be for men, for 30 lbs instead? or half is 10 for 20 pounds?

Funny enough, capitalism is what led to Amazon, Uber eats and even Slickdeals.

I'm really sad that expecting large corporations to make safe, reliable products or deliver on their promises means having champagne tastes. That's heartbreaking.

And alas, I didn't change anything, but thanks for thinking I have that much individual power and money. I *do* vote at the election box - and, as much as I can possibly afford to, with my dollar - for livable wages, safe conditions for workers, and safer products for consumers, though. And that's not about returning to the "good old days." Complaining about a few people who inherited their money, instead of earned it, and then used it to squeeze out small businesses and maee the majority of us poor enough that we need to hunt for deals on things that don't wind up working as advertised is not the same as saying that the good ol' days were good. As a queer person, I can assure you they were not.

No. I'd like Amazon/Ubereats to either a.) deliver on their promises, or b.) stop putting a chokehold on the business that do.

(Have you tried to purchase everything you need in brick and mortar stores with decent labor practices and products lately? Perhaps, if you've got a 6-figure income and no job or caregiving responsibilities, you've managed it. Otherwise, good luck Smilie)
