Thread Details

This is my first post, so I wanted to share a deal I get all the time.

At any of my local Albertson's, if you go in between 6:30-7:30 (when the meat market is getting ready to close) just ask them how much they will sell their ground beef/chuck/sirloin for. They don't want to have to wrap it up for the next day and the have the authority to mark it down. They will usually let whatever is left go for .99. ( I have bought over 10 pounds at times ) On occasion, I have haggled them down on their ground sirloin (normally 2.99/lb), down to .69!! Try it out, YMMV.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

I really doubt it works in most Albertsons. I believe your in a Albertson that exception to the rule! Most Albertsons including other supermarket chains meat department employees try to do as little as possible beyond the daily meat packaging.

For example: When RibEye Steak or NewYork Steaks on Sale or low price, I always ask to cut the steak to thinner slices so it could cook faster. I will rather buy the same family pack or even bigger with the thinner slices. They rarely will do that unless you pay full retail price even if you come at a certain time.

Please be more specific on which Albertson location.

I would love to buy Ground Sirloin for $.69 or even $1.79, a recent sale price.

More Power to You!!

No NO NO .. never haggle. I've known buddies to spit, clean off their shoes etc. and sell to hapless fools who are being cheap. At the end of the day, they want to go home and don't really want you buying anything-period.

I know this is gross and my friends are older and have moved on but don't think this isn't happening ALL THE TIME- and they will smile the whole time that you will think you made a best friend.

Our local news is running an expose' on the "extras" you get at the local sub shops. As someone else said, better to by when a store has a sale and is selling a big volume on a regular day. EEK! EEK! EEK! EEK! EEK!

Oh gross! I wish I had remained naive and never knew. But chances are that we have all eaten something that we have not bargained for at some point in our lives is you think about it.

But it is still way gross!

It works in my local Albertson. Actually they offer it themselves. For example, when I was buying three pounds @ $1.99 they gave me 6 punds for $0.99.

Well, now I ground the beef myself (tastes better), so it is no use for me.

its probably 73% or less (73% meat, 27% fat)

I used to work in a meat dept in a Giant Supermarket up here in PA. Toward the end of the day or the next morning we were supposed to reduce the price of "the grid" by 50%. So if you dont mind "day old" you might want to check early in the morning too
