Thread Details

Just got the Costco Online-Only Offers mailer and they have the Escort Passport 9500ix Radar Detector for $379.99. Red Display. Starts June 2-June 22.

Not the best deal on the 9500ix but pretty good. They had these on Amazon around Black Friday for 350.

consider adding "This bundle includes an extra coiled SmartCord and Sticky Cup windshield mount" to the description to get more mileage...

with the costco return policy this is an outstanding deal! I used to be a V1 junkie but GPS lockout of falsies is the kitties titties and you will wonder how you EVER lived with all the incessant beepings from false alarms and speed signs..

whats the point of paying 400 bucks for a radar detector.. I could see like a hundred bucks maybe.. but youd have to usually get caught all the time to make this even remotely worth it.,. I on the other hand speed regularly, use the carpool when Im not supposed to, and have NEVER got a speeding ticket I had to actually pay out on..you would have to be real unlucky.. I thought the whole idea was to not get hit with tickets.. seems to me your just paying upfront with this.. for like the next 4 tickets.

maybe its worth it I guess if you travel across country all the time and want to do it at 100 MPH. but even then several states intentionally have all thier construction signs send out a broadcast signal that replicate a radar gun.. on the same bands so you get lulled into complacency due to all the false alarms. even then.. just buy one from walmart and return it at the end of the trip..

I drive 120 miles/day on a major highway full of cops, Combination of my radar detector and WAZE I have never had a speeding ticket. Is it %100 bullet proof ? No, but it helps a lot.

Judging from your comment, I can tell you have never used one of these. There's a HUGE difference between an Escort/V1 compared to $100 Walmart ones you mention.

Every radar deal will get people that either have never used them or doesn't see the point of them. If they're not for you, then don't buy them and don't comment on the deal. There's plenty of people who use them regularly and know that it's worth the regular $400+ pricetag FOR THEM.

This is what the name implies. It detects radar, from police (and other sources) so you can actually slow down. GPS doesn't do anything other than tell you you're speeding.

If your on a budget, then I would recommend the vector series from beltronics. Not as sensitive, but certainly does well at its price point. Im still rocking my rx65 pro but would love one of these. Paired with my gpsmirror, laserinterceptor and common sense, Ive been ticket free for 20+ years.

Is the GPS worth the price difference between the 9500ix and 8500 X50 black? It seems to only update locations of redlight cameras and reduce alerts depending on speed from the item description?

I do use the Waze app, so would it be cheaper to get the 8500 X50 with Waze or just go balls out and invest in the 9500ix? I plan on doing 5-hour+ long dives but want to cut down on the time, if you know what I mean.

This varies greatly depending on where you live. The last speeding ticket that i received was about $250 and included the bonus of higher insurance rates for a couple of years. I haven't bothered to do the math and figure out the total, but am guessing that a $400 detector would have paid for itself in 1 ticket out here in Ca...
