Do they still charge you to use the remote desktop?

You have to pay a monthly or yearly fee to use it from away from your home WiFi.

If you mean the Remote Desktop software MS gives you, their software is free but you need Professional version of Windows installed on the target PC, which really limits who you can connect to. Typically, home users do not have Pro versions because desktops and laptops typically come with Home versions. For those cases, Splashtop works great as it works on all editions.

This application is fantastic on Windows and Android, and I can only imagine it works just as well on the iOS operating system.

Just got a new iPad and I KNOW this will be worth the price (Big Grin). Thanks OP

I still use the original Splashtop rather than ST2. Why pay a service fee when I already paid for the app? Now they give you the app for free and charge you every month. What a deal!!

Do you still happen to have an installer for 1.* version? I got a new laptop and I can for the life of me find my old installer. I know I backed it up.

Why is this not in freebies -> free digital goods section?

Edit - done, thanks mods.

As far as I know it's free for local wifi, they only charge you a fee for remote access when you're on a different network. If you really can't afford $16/year, then you could probably circumvent that with a VPN.

When I last used splashtop there was a service fee for accessing your PC from a source outside of your home network. It looks like that still exsists from what I've read in other posts. Bummer.

I use mine on Android. I purchased through Amazon App store so it still remians there. I do not have access to the actual installer. I have to log in through the Amazon App to use it.

It isn't about not being able to afford it. Slickdeals is about finding a better cheaper option. Why would I pay $16 a year when I already have it free with the original Splashtop? Fell free to pay your money on it or set up a VPN. I don't have to.

I use it away from home as much or more than I do at home.
