Yeah, I added that to the original post for the sake of comparison.
It was a Kickstarter program for $27.99

Yes.
That is one of the uses that you could have it for.
It says in the description, "SOS" so you could set it up to automatically sound an alert or make a 911 call or something like that.
I don't have one in hand yet, but that would be a good use and I'll see if it works when I get mine.

I guess that's its most useful purpose...give it to gramps, they fall down or whatever, click it and it calls 911

Well, here was my thought process.....

1. Be a smart@ss and keep telling my wife to turn the damn outside light on so I can see the front door when I get home - which starts a fight......because I'm a smart@ss when I say it.
2. Carry a flashlight at all times.
3. Buy a motion activated, battery powered light for $15 and install it outside....no, really.....I checked kmart.com within the last 24 hours for exactly that.
4. Buy this $5 gadget to just click because my phone is on me at all times and I won't have to fumble with it to go through menus - just click it.
5. Be a smart@ss and tell her I spent the $5 because she never leaves the damn light on.

You could always just grab a widget or add a flashlight to your lock screen.

This seems kind of pointless and I don't really want some dubious app running in the background all the time on the off-chance that I click this button thing..

I have one of the covers that is like a wallet that covers the front screen and requires you to flip it open. Then I have to hold it like that and use my thumb to push the power button on the right side of the phone to bring the main screen up.
Then I have to use my lockscreen (I have a multiple app launcher lockscreen, yes) to launch the flashlight app. Then I have to click the flashlight button on. And then when I'm done, I have to go through that process in reverse.

Doing that in the dark while holding groceries is asking for a dropped phone and a broken screen.
Besides, I've blown far more money on far less customizable things.
At least I can change this whenever I get bored with a function or find it less useful than I hoped.
