Moderator's Note: Links to unsanctioned 3rd party streams are not allowed here.

Here is a summary of the rights situation. On TV, every game will be broadcast live in English on either ABC, ESPN (the bulk of games), or ESPN2. Every game will also be broadcast in Spanish on Univision (which is over the air like ABC) and Univision Deportes (which is cable). ESPN Deportes, normally a Spanish-language channel, will broadcast games in Portuguese. Note that two games never take place at the same time, EXCEPT on the third matchday of the group stage, when all teams within a group kick off simultaneously to ensure fair play. This means that TV networks split broadcasts on these days out of necessity and the one available on the channel you have may not be the one you want to watch.

On the web and mobile, all ESPN and ABC streams are available on either WatchESPN or WatchABC. These are websites *and* apps. They require authentication with your cable provider - even for games on ABC. HOWEVER, if you speak Spanish or don't mind Spanish commentary, you can watch all games on the Univision Deportes app (and website) without authentication - UNTIL the quarterfinals. The quarters, semis, final, and third place game will require login. Many overlook this.

A few last items worth mentioning. If you have access to WatchESPN, there will also be alternate language feeds available for many games (Portuguese and Korean). There will also be a "fan cam" and a "tactics cam" for every game. The fan cam is a camera that points to the stands instead of the game. I've seen it before on friendlies and it's a waste of time. However, the tactics cam can be fascinating. It is a high-angle, behind the goal view that replicates pretty closely the experience of watching a game from the stands. Unlike the traditional broadcast view, the width of the field is not compressed and you get a much better sense of space. Give it a try. (Of course the downside is that vertical distance ends up being compressed instead.)

If you want to see which games are on which channel, I made a schedule here [liveschedules.net] that's sortable by team, group, and channel. It isn't finished yet (it is missing Spanish-language broadcasts), but by Friday it will have a list of official streams for every match so you don't have to go hunting for them. -birdwax

OT: Anyone know of links for watching 15 minute clips of a game's highlights?

Download the app called footylight on your phone. The highlights get posted right after each game. If you want to watch them online, then visit this site and refresh 3,4 hrs after the games. It's in Farsi (Persian) but you can tell by the flags of each teams which highlights they're for. Each one is like 7-8 mins. Brazil one was posted if you scroll down

http://footballitarin.com/videos.php

Also

The upcoming WatchESPN schedule shows "highlight reels" that do not require authentication for most (possibly all) matches. Not sure how long or involved they will be...
I think this is for iOS only?

So pretty much you or someone you know need to have cable or pay for some kind of TV services before you can get live steaming? Then the title should be updated with the correct info.

These streams are only available if you have cable TV from these providers.

You can watch these games for free via over the air broadcast on Univision. It will be in Spanish though but not a big deal

Title is massively misleading.
Kind of like DirecTV--they promise you 'streaming' content, but ONLY if you're connected to your home network.

Do appreciate the effort though. Would love to watch some of the games on the road.

What sucks is I do sub to Direct TV, but the list of providers doesn't have DTV.

Slingbox is your answer if you want to watch games on the road.

You can stream the audio from ESPN as well, but it might not be in sync with the television picture on Univision.

If you want to know where each game will be shown on TV and legally streamed, my friend and I made this sortable schedule for the tournament:

http://liveschedules.net/world-cup-schedule/

The Univison games aren't there yet, but they will be added in the next couple of days. When the tournament starts, all the official streams will be collected here for every game. Many don't realize that each game will have up to six streams: 1) a Spanish feed on the Univison website and Univision Deportes app, 2) an English-language main feed on WatchESPN or ABC, 3) a high-angle "tactical" camera, 4) a "fan cam", 5) a Portuguese alternate feed for almost every game, and 6) Korean audio for some games.

The last five will be on WatchESPN and require authentication, but Univision has decided NOT to require verification for any game before the quarterfinals. So as long as you don't mind Spanish commentary, you can watch what should be a relatively high-quality stream even if you don't have a cable subscription. Just remember that if you plan to watch on your mobile device, you need to download the Univision Deportes app, not the main Univision app. I was able to watch a friendly last week without logging in, as Univision promised.

This is NOT free.

You need to pay for TV service.

Also ESPN charges your ISP to access this lame feature, which means more fees to your internet bill.

ESPN are scum and you should not support them.
