Refurbished can often just mean returned.

Absolutely, meaning that thousands of buyers did not like the watch and returned it? why? because it's an excellent product? not very likely

You might have a point but at the same time there are refurbs of very good products as well. It's hard to draw conclusions based on the availability of refurbs. There may be a lot of people that bought that didn't have a samsung phone and were disappointed they couldn't use all the features.

it never ceases to amaze me how people do not understand in todays world REFURB does not always mean returned/broken and repaired to be sold again as refurbished etc...

when product cycles are so short these days and new poducts come out so fast often times brand new items are sold as refurbished items simply to move product and make room for the newest models that just came out but they do not want to devalue the brand and yet some people will still pay retail for a new "older" model so they play into 2 different markets... the people who pay retail for new and the people like us here who try to get the best value for the lowest amount of money..

its not always the case that a refurb is new, but in my experience buying refurbished it has been the case... the next best example of this is the surface tablets that didnt sell well... so they made a new version asap and then a 3rd model soon after that so in order to sell out the other ones they lable them as refurbished and discount them, but not devaluing the brand or the retail price overall...

is this watch crap? no... but its certainly a niche that has a long ways to go to be really functional... is it worth $90 bucks to not have to pull your phone out each time to see what the text is?? and a few other little things... maybe... I think the gear 2 neo is a better value at 150 new than this watch at $90 refurb... but thats a matter of subjective opinion and for $90 this isnt too bad since its not unheard of to spend $50-100 on a fossil watch or casio or ??? etc.. all of which have no real use other than looks and to tell the time...

I never stated that these were broken prior to being refurbished, just undesired (because they are garbage) and/or broken, which is the case here.

Why would a company sell a new unit as refurbished? Stupidest thing I've ever heard, do car dealership sell new cars as used as well? It just lowers the value of the item. If they are coming out with new watches they could just sell the old ones as new for this same price, people aren't going to expect the new watches to have the same price as the old version. You are basically saying that Best Buy would like to make less money and sell fewer units, which is the exact opposite of what a business wants.

Whether $100 for a watch is a good price or not is completely irrelevant, you also cannot compare a mass produced chinese wrist computer to a designer watch.

I bet these will be $50 or less in no time, the price right now is simply too high for what you get.

if you can re read what I wrote i tell you exactly why a company would sell a NEW item as a REFURBISHED... to move product (they are still making a profit, even selling these at $90) and you wont see these @ $50 either... not gonna happen, they will sell out before they make it to $50 for sure... and there is 5 more months for them to sell out as the gear 3 watches wont come out till the note 4 is launched, which is in late oct and prob for sale november...

and you have to realize that they also get someting in return for selling a NEW product as a refurbished unit...and even though you analogy does not apply (cars) ill use it in this sense so you can understand it

hey ill sell you this NEW FORD with 100k/2 year bumper to bumper warranty for retail price of 30,000... so they make great money on the retail profit price but they also have to subtract some of that profit as they will have to fix some cars that break over the warranty period.. many women love to buy cars with longer warranties bc it gives them peace of mind and they dont mind paying for it as an example of who would buy this even with refurbs for sale

or ill sell you this REFURB FORD with 30k/6 months bumper to bumper warranty for 20,000 so they make very little profit, but move cars off the lot bc people who wouldnt buy at 30k would now want to buy at 20k and take the risk of less warranty time... and ford doesnt mind making less money on the sale bc they also do not have to subtract much if any due to warranty issues bc most warranty issues happen way father down the road than the short refurb warranty period... a guy who knows how to take care of his car or how to fix things might well love this discounted car...

but if they marketed the refurb as a NEW car for cheaper price then they couldnt sell nearly as many retail ones to women and rich people who dont mind paying a premium bc the perceived value has gone down on the higher priced retail "new" one
