Does any one remember "American Pure Shit"? They sells protein at very low price, but not sure if there is any protein content in it at all. I just want to remind you guys about "American Pure Shit" before you guys buy any cheap protein. Big Grin

Here's a chart that shows that brand names matter when it comes to buying protein.

There are arguments either way. Whey concentrate is the standard. Isolate is further processed. Dr. Mercola claims concentrates can be better because many of the trace minerals and a bit of fat/carbs are retained, being a more "complete" version of the food. http://proteinpowder.mercola.com/...otein.html

Other people cannot tolerate even the slightest amount of lactose, so they use isolate. Or they want as close to "pure protein" as possible, or whatever their reasons may be, doesn't matter. Personal choice. You also typically pay more for isolate.

$58 for 10lbs of whey concentrate is a great deal, which is the subject of this post.

Isolate is actually the gold standard.

It is true that concentrate has fats and lactose, which is probably not something you want if you want pure protein. Mix it with milk, wham, cheaper alternative. You do pay more for isolate, which is 90% protein vs a lower 29-89. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/pr...ng-claims/ Not sure why you think concentrate which has variable protein content is the standard. Standard for deals but definitely not for the pure protein.

You do pay for what you get. I prefer ON since it uses more isolate. Its a good deal though.

This has been often debated on protein threads.

One of the latest is here:

http://slickdeals.net/f/6659810-costco-optimum-nutrition-performance-whey-isolate-protein-4-5-lb-vanilla-39-99-reg-50-after-manufacturers-instant-rebate?

My conclusion: Who the hell knows -- and does it really matter that much.

I could guess that if you believe you are doing something for your body in a near perfect and unsullied manner, you may end up being more highly motivated and even enjoy a placebo effect.

As one who would be of the mindset that most of these companies buy their raw whey from the same source (few sources, many resellers), I think the OP has a better deal here than this deal:

ON is significantly overpriced to a point that pretty much almost any other powder is a "better deal". almost $10/lb is crazy high for a protein powder (it would even be for an isolate which ON gold is not) but i guess its a good price for an ON product. Long story short, the best deals are with smaller brands.
Back on topic, at $6/lb not bad for a relatively low calorie powder even if its concentrate.I would jump on it if I knew how it taste...would hate to force myself to go through 10lbs.
