Droid Maxx vs Samsung Galaxy S5. I really wanted the Galaxy.

Long story short, my Droid Razr Maxx is bulging at the back because of the battery swelling.

The Droid Razr Maxx was my 2nd Droid and they are well built since I dropped them a few times.

I got the Droid Maxx for free (with contract). The Galaxy would be $199.

The Maxx has great battery life but I am seeing comments that it slows down after awhile. As stated, I feel these phones are well built.

I guess I could sell the Maxx and get the Galaxy at Best Buy with a $50 gift card.

Look forward to your comments. Thanks.

All the Razr line as well as most of the older Moto droid phones were nothing but problems. My wife went through several before giving up on Motorola altogether. I understand the new one out there is decent, but I haven't looked into it. The S5, the new version of the HTC one and the LG G2 are the 3 phones out there worth looking at. Aside from the new Note which isn't even really a phone.

Get the S5, it may not feel as good as the Maxx felt in terms of heft and solid construction, but it will function worlds better and will have just as good of a battery life due to being optimized better.

The Maxx is older at this point. I couldn't recommend one for that reason. The S5 will surpass it in almost everything but maybe battery life.

If your only problem is the swollen battery you might just look at replacing it. It looks pretty simple https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Moto...ement/8057

I have the maxx and its great. I had the razr maxx hd before that. They are solid phones. I never had a case on the phone and dropped it at least 20 times. The last time the power button failed. Moto has the most amazing customer service. I now have the maxx and its plenty fast for me. You just cant beat the battery life. I NEVER have to charge during the day. That fact alone is worth it for me.
Motorola treated me so well, that I would have a hard time going to any other manufacture.

I suggest the S5. If the battery worries you, you can root it and install ROMs and battery saving apps that will make it last all day. Or you can get a battery pack for around $30 that will charge your phone 4-5 times. The Galaxy phones are really nice.

While the RAZR line of phones are well built, like other users have said, they are getting old and obsolete. The S5 is obviously more up-to-date, both in terms of hardware as well as software. However, you may want to consider the fact that the S5 comes with TouchWiz, Samsung's proprietary ROM, which imo, is very very ugly and cumbersome. Sure it comes with a few extra features here and there, but it completely destroys the true Android experience. If you do decide to go with the phone however, I recommend checking xda and flashing another ROM on.

If your still happy with the Maxx get a lookup the repair guide and get replacement battery.

If its too much trouble, the S5 is OK and LG G2 is great with 12 hrs on wifi and 24 hr talk time. I think the Maxx has 9 wifi and 18 hr talk
