I called this morning to have my phone number transfer from one phone to the other. The representative informed me that the talk rate for pay as you go changes from 2 cents a minute to $5 cents a minute now. I asked her when was that changed, she said July 1st. But the rate for text and data still remains the same, 4cents and 6cents. She said the website hasn't been update with the changes yet. My heart broke once I heard that and I thought that's the whole reason of why I used Lycamobile.

Did anyone out there heard of that change? is it because I was changing sim card? I tried check online and slickdeals and didn't see any info. I am in the process of waiting for the phone number to port and can't make a call to confirm how much it will get deduct.

Does anybody know what other inexpensive pay as you go plan out there?

Lyca website updated to 5c for pay as you go:

This is sad news. I use lycamobile to call international.
Ultramobile offer $30 a month with free 1000 international.
I'll have to start paying $30 each month.

Someone also mentioned about the rate increase on July 1st.

I was told by a Lyca rep today that going forward the 'pay as you go' plan will have phone calls charged at 5 cents/min, it will no longer be 2 cents. Their site doesn't show this so I'm thinking she might be wrong. Anyone else hear this?

2.5x price increase? Wtf. They could have at least alerted customers with a text message or something.

5 cent/minute is not that bad still. You may think over to switch to RingPlus.

Not worth staying with any more for me. There voicemail system is awful to use, it doesn't even show the voicemail icon, just send a text message.

I read about this a few days ago. I hooked up my parents with this service and one of my cellphones as well. Still going to stick with it as long as the gig minutes not expiring remains the same.

I made my first call on Lycamobile last night and kept it under a minute. I started with a $10.00 balance and afterwards the balance showed $9.98. As an aside, just for grins I turned on my mobile data for a few seconds to see if I get 4G at my location. Doing that took off another cent lol

That's disappointing, but they're still the best game in town for me. I just wish their data charges weren't weird, I am certain I pay far more than 6c/mb, especially when I play Ingress and it seems I can't use 3g without spending at least a $1-$2 for 30min to an hour.

And still 50% the cost of t-mobile, even though they use the same networks. Still looks like a bargain to me.

Could the voice rate possibly be grandfathered for existing users?

RingPlus uses Sprint. Anyone switching from Lyca would need a new device.

As someone else said, 5c/min is still better or equal to the competition, and their SMS and data rates are still below the competition (i.e. H2O Wireless).
