BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera on B&H [bhphotovideo.com]

Adorama [adorama.com] also has it for $495.

Long story short, it's a digital cinema camera that is about the size of a point and shoot. Doesn't have a huge sensor (Super16 sized) but it has lots of dynamic range. $500 off until August 31st. Not sure if it's an End of Life clearance thing or what, but it's basically a BOGO.

From B&H:
The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera from Blackmagic Design is a compact Super 16 format camera designed for digital film production. The Super 16 sized sensor has an effective resolution of 1920 x 1080 and is capable of capturing 13 stops of dynamic range. The Pocket Cinema Camera records Full HD video in either the lossless CinemaDNG RAW or Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) format. The active Micro Four Thirds lens mount can accommodate a growing range of MFT format lenses as well as a host of excellent legacy lenses via optional adapters. Blackmagic Design has packed all of these impressive features into a remarkably compact (5 x 2.6 x 1.5") and lightweight (12.5 oz) magnesium alloy chassis.

All Black Magic Camera are body only. They have different version of the mount.

For video, black magic is the best consumer cam

Anyone know, what would be the minimum investment, (in addition to the $495 for the camera), required to use the BMPC for video making?
- lens (Sigma m43?)
- batteries (how many/3rd party OK?)
- cards (fast enough + enough storage for RAW and/or ProRes?)

Thanks.

wow, i can't believe the price drop. I remember this was suppose to be THE camera to get for videographers. If I was still getting paid to do video work, I would be all over this. It is still tempting however.

Thats some efficient engineering. They just lifted the body shell directly from an older model Panasonic lumix.

Why do you say that? It doesn't look anything like the Panasonic M43 cameras. If anything, it looks like the original NEX 3.

Here's a good comparison test for people thinking abou this.

Actually - yes (efficient engineering). If you can find a manufacturer with all the production molds and the shell is EOL for the OEM, then you can get it with no development or tooling costs. If your engineers can do this early enough in the process, they can probably avoid needing to make any, or at most minimal, design compromises. Thus the extra money they save can go into better quality electronics, which seems to be their selling point (instead of sexy/must have/etc.). Big Grin
