For those that are familiar with these types of devices, this is essentially something like a GBox Midnight or a Minix X7 / X7-Mini for less than half the price.

Specs will be below, along with a pretty full-featured product review.

Good deal for an MX box. THe new M8 boxes are out and around $100. These boxes perform better once you put a Linux rom on instead of running XBMC on top of Android.

I'm 90% Android, and about 10% XBMC in terms of total knowledge.
Is there an easy (relatively) set of instructions on how one would go about doing that?

I think if it took the performance from great to outstanding, it might be worth the extra 30 mins or however long to do what you're describing.

p.s. Thanks for the tip!

p.p.s. Whoever voted, "not a good product" at this price has lost their ever-lovin' mind. Granted, it is not a sale on a Ferrari, but a Honda Accord for half off is pretty damn swell. Big Grin

Anyone an expert with this sorta stuff. Have xbmc on a fire tv however i feel like the frame-rate could just be better. Anyway of doing any sort of hardware acceleration or something on a firetv to improve frame-rate. Been trying to stream movies and its decent but could be a bit smoother for my liking.

I don't really care for any of the amazon applications so I may just get rid of it for a dedicated xmbc unit that performs very smoothly.

How does this compare to the FireTV? I'm looking for a dead-simple XBMC box for the parents.

Sorry, forgot to post the review.
Here it is.

I think there are plenty of details in there for people that know about this kind of stuff and want some serious detail.
It talks about HDMI passthrough, digital sound, .iso files, and a bunch of stuff that I don't even consider when looking at these types of media players.

Maybe I should have said I know 98% Android and 2% XBMC. Blink

WOW.

That appearss pretty darn simple and if you're buying this player strictly for XBMC, it seems like a heckuva' slick way to get pure performance.

A $50 Linux box dedicated to XBMC???
Are you aware of anything else out there that would be at this price, for the sake of comparison?

By the way, I am extremely familiar with Freaktab. They have a guy over there that does AMAZING custom ROM's and I've used his firmware on plenty of other Android gadgets that I've bought in the past.
Thanks so much for all the info, repped +4!

Does the remote work fully with XBMC? I have the Fire TV with XBMC but the downside is you don't get a lot of buttons on the remote.

$165 Bones? Ouch.
I know Minix extremely well and I posted about them in the original deal post.
I'm not too familiar with the model you linked, but one thing that always ticked me off about them is their stupid remote controls.
You would think for charging such a premium the least they could do is kick you a reasonably good remote control.
I notice Geekbuying has the lowest price on that device at the moment as well.
