C720 or HP14?
If screen size is at the top of your list, you'll want the HP Chromebook 14. But that big screen comes at a price -- $50, plus plenty of extra weight. If screen size isn't important, the Acer C720 is the clear winner, with the best combination of power, battery life, and price.

How to get Microsoft Office (Online) on a Chromebook:

1. Go here [live.com] and create a FREE Outlook/Live account.
2. Go to Chrome Web Store [google.com].
3. You want Word Online app? Install this [google.com].
4. You want Excel Online app? Install this [google.com].
5. You want PowerPoint Online app? Install this [google.com].
6. You want OneNote Online app? Install this [google.com].

These are the same apps you get access to when you subscribe to Office 365 so unless you want the desktop versions, save your money.

I'm trying to decide between the 2 and 4gb (ram). Does the 2gb version have issues with a bunch of tabs open?

I own the 2gb version and absolutely LOVE it. Don't see myself ever going back to Windows (although I'll always keep an old laptop laying around for occasional Microsoft Office-ing).

The laptop is awesome but does, on occasion appear to run out of memory. When it does, the tab that pushed it over the edge goes all purple as seen here [themarysue.com]. In my experience this has happened around 25 tabs, which I usually don't get to. I'm sure YMMV based on what you have open, especially if you do lots of media.

I got mine for $150 refurb. Not sure what the price for a 4gb version is. If it's $25-50 I would consider it, but it is by no means mandatory. Enjoy!

Is it worth spending the extra money on the c720p for the touchscreen ? Any one know how well does the touch input works?

Depends on how many. You get up to over 20 then I've seen my 2GB one start to drag yes. This isn't something that I normally do so not a huge deal for me. I don't know that the 4GB is better but I would expect it to be better about that. I thought Acer was discontinuing the 4GB model but not sure of that and how many might be left in the channels if so.

Got one today at BB.
The display doesn't seem as bad as people have been saying in the pro reviews.
The acer's matte display looked better at the store than the HP 14 chromebook's glossy display.
The cramped keyboard/touchpad layout might be a problem for people with big hands, though.

You'll get used to it

The scrolling alone is a good trade-off of the crampness

I'd recommend to everyone on the fence about this chromebook. It's legit

Got the C720 with the $59 deal from Amazon. It's a great little machine. I have big hands, and yes it's a little cramped, but after a while you'll get used to it. It's ultra portable and sincerely before that deal I wouldn't touch a Chromebook for this price(not even $100) but now I fell in love it. It's perfect for my needs. When the next model arrives for sure I'll buy it. And the display is more than acceptable I personally like it.

I love my C720 32GB refurb I got for this price. I picked up another one for my dad and just this morning got in on the $170 Toshiba 13.3 in Chromebook. They are so fast to boot up and quick.

I only touch my Windows laptop if I need to some kind of exe file or to root my android phone.

isn't this a bit pricey compared to other chromebooks? What sets this apart from a refurbished one for like $100 in the past (i think it was a Samsung)

I believe that $100 refurb was the C710. I'm attaching an image here with the main spec differences.
