Greetings fellow Staplers & SDers,

I was at a nearby Staples B&M close to closing time on Saturday (07/19), and a couple of EasyTechs were prepping the store for the following day/week. Amongst the newest clearance labels, there was a freshly-printed label at $449.90 for the recently "replaced" Microsoft Surface Pro 2. OMG

I sorely was in need for an upgrade for my aging Samsung tabby, so I returned Monday (07/21) to seal the deal.

The product SKUs for this model are 308852 (display/demo SKU) and 308853 (NEW). You'll need to have someone at Staples (800-333-3330) run an inventory check on your surrounding area to look for stock, as none of the inventory checkers seem to bring anything up. In reverence of the SlickDeals "do not call" rule, please be considerate of your fellow SDers and DO NOT CALL YOUR LOCAL STORE!!! (Those that ignore this golden rule, most likely end up just ruining any potential SlickDeal for either themselves or another local SDer on his/her way to the same store.)

Most likely all you may end up finding is a display model, as all of the new stock appears to be "RTW" back to Staples online (.com). As such, you are at liberty to ask for a markdown on the display model. Usually, 5% to 10% is the going rate. The guys at the store only had the tablet (in mint condition) and could not find the power adaptor, box, etc. for mine, so the MoD exercised his discretion at 15%. (I bought the type cover (SKU: 130419), a new, boxed MS 48W power adaptor (SKU: 153966), and a SquareTrade 2-year accidental protection warranty (SKU: 207417) separately to complete the package.)

NOTE: The demo/display units are usually marked "demo, do not sell". They CAN be sold NOW, since this item is now a CLEARANCE item. As a wannabe Buddhist, I implore nonviolence, but try not to take NO for an ANSWER. Peace

ALSO: Some coupons to consider that may work on this (and that...) on up until the end of the day today/tomorrow (07/22), look HERE and HERE. SAME COUPON CODES EXTENDED FOR THIS WEEK (07/20 - 07/26...w/grace...)

Happy hunting! Smilie

I saw the sign at my local staples, but not in stock. It was the 64gb version. It will be tough finding it because staples is now using the pro 3 and surface (rt) 2 as displays. That means the pro 2 is likely "keyed out" and going back to wherever they send these type of clearanced products.

There are PLENTY of stores with the display/demo units in-stock (qty.1). I had an EasyTech look up the SKU in the AS400 and a bunch of stores in the region were showing Qty.1 on-hand. I bought two so far; one for me, one for the wife. The 1st store I bought one at had it on display, while the other (from the posted receipt) had it locked up somewhere in the back and NOT on display. (I had to "press" the EasyTech twice to find it (came up empty the first time), letting him know I would purchase the ST warranty as well, should he find it.) Wink Good luck.

P.S. - I believe you are right on one point though; it is very possible that if one doesn't move to nab one of these pronto, they will be going "RTW" or whatever. Happened to me many times on other clearance items of interest at B&Ms that I visit less frequently.

Why do people like you harass the employees. Can't you be nice to the tech and be grateful you were able to at least get one. You should be ashamed for harassing the employee to get you the 2nd one.

Any concerns to worry about with a display unit like this? Where it's plugged in 24/7 and lots of screen on time.

Did you guys get models with the 4300u 1.9ghz or the 4200u 1.6ghz? Also have you checked the serial for Microsoft warranty? Wondering if they started in November of 2014 until 2015 or if they're newer display models. Thanks!

You sir, are obviously an idiot that can not read. I harassed no one, nor did I buy two at the same store. If you have nothing constructive to say and/or add to the thread, STFU please.
the 25/75 q you used was for instore + online?
seems like it's a "magical" coupon as well
are the ones from cn.usa the same?

Is there still a way to use the 15% off technology coupon today 7/22 (that expired on Sunday 7/20)? Seems like I've seen posts (including the first one) that references using staples coupons after they've expired like at Kiosks in store?? or other ways. Can someone help plz!

Not that I have really been able to spend an adequate amount of time testing the unit for "wear", etc., but I have not noticed any ill-effects whatsoever to the battery, display, etc., etc.. Of course, I fully intend to "burn" it in during the 14 day exchange/refund period to be sure.

Sorry, NO, I have not checked out the warranty (registration) at all. I did reset the unit to "factory" myself using the restore partition on the HDD and migrated my data from my Samsung tabby, which also runs Win8. That said, you can always argue the warranty period, providing your purchase receipt as evidence. Not sure if/how MS will take it, should they have the unit "on file" as a demo. I'm not worried though, as I have the ST warranty as a backup to whatever can go wrong, even accidental damage.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have the unit on hand? Can you go to "this computer" icon on the desktop then go to properties and let me know what processor yours has? Just wondering if these were units that were there from the launch and been out display units since Nov or if they have been swapped out in that time. They refreshed the CPU in January which is why I am asking above. i5-4300U (1.9Ghz) or i5-4200u (1.6Ghz) thanks!!

Staples is saying 308853 is not a valid item number.

Oh, sorry...missed responding to that question. They both are the i5-4200U (1.6GHz) w/2.3GHz boost and come with Win8.1 Pro 64-Bit. Good enough for me, coming off a laggy 27XX Atom Dual Core. Stick Out Tongue
