I bought one as well. Didn't do any updates because it worked fine out of the box. Lasted about 6 months and then stopped responding to ip networking. tried resets, hard resets, nothing worked. Ended up pitching it.
Whether or not this is a good deal really depends on what version of the WR710N it is.
- The US version has 8MB of flash memory, allowing you to flash OpenWRT[openwrt.org] on it.
- The international/Chinese version has only 2MB of flash, so you're stuck with stock firmware.
Has anyone bought this from TigerDirect and can say which one it is? Without knowing this, and given that it's TigerDirect, I'd assume it's the 2MB version.

TL-WR710N - Chinese/International Edition TL-WR710N(EU) v1.1/TL-WR710N(EU) v1.2 - European Edition TL-WR710N(US) v1.0 - US Edition
So, according to that, it should have 8 MB Flash, right?
I don't see why TigerDirect wouldn't be selling the US edition, although I guess anything's possible with them.
Yeah, I linked to the same page -- that's where I got my info from.
You'd think it would be the US version... but it's Tiger Direct. I wouldn't assume anything, since the 2MB is also called the "international" version. It would explain why they're trying to get rid of them.
I have one of this and two of the nano one. It's very versatile. I used it as a repeater mode to extend signal, or as client mode to connect Ethernet devices to it. This is useful if you have an old network printer that do not support 802.11n, since I set my main router to run on 802.11n exclusively. I use this router in client mode and connect the printer to it by Ethernet so it can be recognized by the main router.
