GBAstar, you can't run windows applications on a Chromebook. This is because ... they run ... on Windows. Chromebooks run Chrome OS.
However, you can use Google Docs, which is a fairly good facsimile of most word/excel/powerpoint features. There are other apps but they're just all of the applications in the Chrome Web Store [you may want to check that out first to make sure you're fine with it].
I bought this laptop a month ago or so, the 16GB one, for $180. It's amazing. I love it.
Have a 2GB, white non-4g HP Chromebk that is going back. It hangs on more than 7 windows opened, shut downs temporarily, then screen pops back on stating it was shut down improperly. Don't know if it's a bum Chromebook or what, but I will be buying a 4GB one soon. I suspect the 2GB may be the underlying cause of all the trouble. Love everything else about it, other than my printer is non-compatible. Super fast, lightweight, love the white/gray keyboard and the start-up time is shorter than a burp (LOL!).
