Ultra Mobile just upgraded their $19/month cell phone plan. This prepaid cellular service is on T-Mobile's network.
  • Unlimited minutes to USA and 10 other countries (with direct dialing, no need to call access number first), including landlines and mobile phones in Canada, China, Singapore and Thailand and landlines only in France, Israel, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
  • Unlimited international texting
  • 100MB of LTE data
  • $1.25 international calling credit to other countries
  • free "Call Me Free" [ultra.me] so people in other countries can call you as a local call.
Another nice thing, you can cheaply add data to this plan: 200MB for $2.50, 500MB for $5, and 1GB for $10.

I believe this makes them the cheapest GSM unlimited talk/text plan by far. Simple Mobile and Cricket offer $25/month unlimited talk/text plans, but don't give you any data or free international calling. This saves you even more if you use international calling to those countries.

Do note, they do charge a $1 fee to cover regulatory surcharges/fees (such as e911, Federal Universal Service Fund, etc). If you live in a state that forces sales tax on prepaid plans (California doesn't) then you can probably get around that by buying your refill PINs from a site like CallingMart.com.

You can buy their SIM cards at Amazon [amazon.com] for 1 cent. They work in locked T-Mobile and unlocked GSM phones.

EDIT: Since I know someone is going to ask - Ultra Mobile has been around since 2012 [ultra.me] and is hiring [ultra.me] for 17 positions... if that says anything about their stability.

No Roaming!! This carrier isn't for you if you lve in deep south, or remote mountain states. Look at the Tmo coverage map. Only the dark green areas are included. Light green "partner coverage" is not included. http://maps.eng.t-mobile.com/?cmp...1f750826fb

Note they use T-Mobile prepaid coverage... This deal would be perfect if not for that. Still, even as-is I'll probably try it out for a month. Thanks, OP.

T-mobile prepaid allows voice/text roaming on AT&T (if T-mobile has roaming agreements w/ AT&T in those areas)

so it might not be that bad Big Grin
but ultra doesn't allow roaming

Yeah, I remember them changing that last year... I know that upgrade didn't apply to the $30 unlimited data plan, though. Last I checked Ultra used native Tmo only but maybe that's changed

Can you travel with this thing? If you can travel to another country and use this plan seemlessly that would be great...

I'm mostly interested in international data usage about 200MB and I'm wondering if this may be ideal on an unlocked Note 2 from ATT (I can live with 3G or EDGE data). Will be going to Rome, Prague, and Amsterdam for a week. I'll end up in Japan too but I think I'll manage to find a cheap local SIM at the Narita airport or in Tokyo Smilie TIA
