PROMOTION IS BACK!!!
Spoke with CSR (12/16/2014) and there is no offical end date of this promotion.

http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phon...amily.html
IT’S BACK! Our 1GB of 4G LTE option is increased to up to 2.5GB 4G LTE data per line (for the same price) until 2016 when you buy 4 or more lines.

-----------------------------------------------
http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/
http://newsroom.t-mobile.com/issu...us-ten.htm

HOW IT WORKS IN A NUTSHELL:
Nothing changes other than the "basic data package" that has been 1GB for a long time is now 2.5GB as a part of this promotion until January 2016. NOTHING ELSE CHANGES!

This means:
1. If you usually use the "basic data package" then you can get a free upgrade to 2.5GB/line for a year and a half.
2. If you usually pay an extra $10/line to get 2.5GB then you can save that $10/line for a year and a half.

That's it. Just sign up for it ASAP on/after July 30 if you want to take advantage of it!

HOW IT WORKS IN DETAIL:
Pricing for the new promo follows the same lines as pricing for the regular family plans:
First Line: $50
Second Line: $30
each add'l line (up to 5 total): $10

1. With the old family package, you get a small base amount of data (1GB/line) "for free".
2. With the new family package, that "for free" data package is 2.5GB instead of 1GB. Nothing else changes!
3. In 2016 when the free upgrade is over with, you'll be bumped down to 1GB/line/month.
4. After you drop down to 1GB/line in 2016, you'll be able to upgrade back up to 2.5GB or more just like you can today.
5. Current accounts can "downgrade" to the promo's basic data plan to take advantage of this.

**Note** Please do not forget that all the Data usage is still unlimited.....2.5GB of 4G LTE and then throttled down to 2G(Edge) for the remainder of the billing cycle. **Note**

_____

T-mobile employee here... From what I've been told, this promo is only for people with 4 or 5 lines with us. So if you have 3, 2, or 1, you will not be able to get the promo data.

LINGERING QUESTIONS:
1. Will it work for 5 lines? (2.5GB each)
https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp/s...2273324032
2. Will it work for 1 / 2 / 3 lines? (2.5GB each)
https://twitter.com/TMobileHelp/s...4177499136

(I called to see if it will work on 2 lines and the answer is not yet - but keeping looking for future opportunities...Can someone else call to double check, maybe I just didn't get SD exploitative creative enough or got a bad CSR?)

Not automatic for existing customers. Have to call in to get the promotion.

I've added a screenshot of what your plan will look like in T-Mobile after they complete the change. Note that it has a new name now "SC Fam Unl TT 4 to 5 lines." So clearly only 4-5 lines will work. So the breakdown is $100 for 4 lines and $10 for the 5th line which has grandfathered unlimited data ($20).

I just switched from business to personal with 8 lines, all 8 lines have 2.5gb of lte... lines 7-10 are $20 each, before it was $10 each for up to 1000 lines for me but I'm dropping 1 line next month and can live with paying an extra $10 when I actually had 2 lines that had 3gb of lte before for $10 more each...

I previously posted (#791) that if you are considering switching to TMobile you should wait until 8/29 to do so because of a new and better benefit from TMobile offered as a result of the referral program.

If you switch on or after 8/29 and are referred from an existing Tmobile Simple Choice Plan member, you can also get free unlimited data for a year -and so will the person who refers you. This is even sweeter.

The T-Mobile Referral Program works as follows: (There are specific steps)

1. The existing T-Mobile ‘Simple Choice Plan’ Customer needs to create a refer-a-friend account at https://referral.t-mobile.com/
FYI, this is a different account than the ordinary “my account” at tmobile.com

2. The existing T-Mobile account holder who is referring the person from Sprint/Verizon/AT&T must login to the refer-a-friend account and notify T-Mobile of his/her referral.

3. After the 'new' Tmobile customer is ported and all is successfully switched, the ‘new’ T-Mobile Customer (who came from Sprint/Verizon/AT&T) needs to create a refer-a-friend account at https://referral.t-mobile.com/
When you create the account, they will ask you right there if you were referred. You need to be ready with your referr-er information.

4. (As part of step 3 creating the account at the referral landing page) the person receiving the referral to Tmobile must login to the refer-a-friend account and notify T-Mobile of the referral.

5. It is important that BOTH parties login at https://referral.t-mobile.com/ and do this.

6. I have been told that it is best if the existing T-Mobile customer (the referrer) submits the referral first.

7. Of course, to get the benefit, do not let someone do this who is not a Simple Choice Plan customer of T-Mobile. Someone can tell if he/she is a simple choice customer by looking at his/her bill. For instance, I am a simple choice customer and mine says so right on page 1 of my Tmobile monthly invoice.

8. And of course, wait until Friday 8/29 to switch from Verizon/Sprint/AT&T and sign up for T-Mobile service on or after 8/29 as the promotion starts on 8-29

Then it will work. Please follow these instructions for a successful referral.

I really don't have a need for 4 lines, but wondering whether two lines can be used in a data card. Does it still get all the hefty per line fee on data cards?
What do you mean by a data card?

Not sure if this has been covered or not in regards to a Family Plan.

Say I am on a family and simple choice, would each specific number on an account that you want the unlimited data on have to Refer someone?

Friendly reminder: Referrals of any kind are not allowed here. So do not ask for or offer any referral, period.

Likely ships with Android 2.3, but upgradeable to 4.0. Smaller battery, but all depends on your needs.

Might be good phone for my kids. Time to drop off my $150/month family plan with 3 phones (1 with voice only) and looks like this might be a good time to give the kids a phone. Now to decide between buying them a cheap phone like this, or hand down the s3 and get new phones for me and the wife.

You can get them the samsung galaxy light. It is like a weaker s3. It has a smaller screen and lower resolution but it is quite fast with LTE. It goes for about $100 on ebay. It is a much better phone than the HTC Sensation.

How did you get the 15% discount if you switch to t mobile as new customer? My understanding is t mobile does not offer employer discount.
