Bank of America Privacy Assist - FULL Refund for YEARS of Service

What's up guys. This is my first Slickdeal and I hope it's considered a Slickdeal; I really felt it was.

For those of you that have Bank of America's Privacy Assist credit monitoring service, be aware that they recently had a massive lawsuit against them that is forcing them to refund $700M+ to Privacy Assist customers. Note: If you have ever had any of their other "credit monitoring" services, you should be eligible for a refund as well.

I found this out last night when I decided to cancel the service (I was looking for ways to save $10/month here and there) and Google'd for their number.

Canceling was very easy and all I did was mention that I read about a recent lawsuit filed against them and asked if I was entitled to any refund. The kind lady informed me that I would be refunded for my full 74 months of service ($12.99/month, $961.26 total refund). It hasn't hit my account yet but I was in shock.

Just some info for SD members
There are many class suits that may you have missed out on if you did not know about them.
BOA has about 4.
Some I have been compensated for: Naked Juice, Kashi Cereal, TurboTax, Honeywell, Popchips, Traders Joe's, Emergen-C....
There are 100's of others going on.
I have got checks from these as well as many free products. (Like 16 bags of Alexia French Fries)
Some suit do not require any proof of purchase, some pay out better with proof.
I am signed up with a site (I have no affiliation, they have no referral program, just info for you guys)
IMO: Just found it to be the best and they seem to stay on top of every suit going on.
Sign up and get email updates of all current class suits.
You won't regret spending the time searching the site.
There is money in them dar classy suits!

You guys pay for something like this. Spending ~$13 a mo seems to be an awful lot of money for credit monitoring. Creditkarma does that for free, no?

CreditKarma has 200+ complaints on BBB, no thanks. BoA was at least my primary bank. It was a neat service. Your credit scores for all 3 bureaus were updated regularly and you can see a list of all of your credit accounts, including previous ones that are still on record. Any time a new credit account was opened in your name, you'd get an e-mail letting you know. Apparently Consumer Protection disagrees with the service and BoA's ways of handling cancellations/sign-ups; if you search around you'll see complaints of how annoying they made the cancellation process in the past.

Lol credit karma can't touch what a legit service like USAA or somewhere else can do for that little cost.

i would trust transunions free credit history report over credit karma anyday. i've used credit karma and it's "legit" but i just cant help but feel like it's a good target for overseas hackers. so i closed my account.

CK is good, but not great.

It'll "monitor", but everything else cannot be taken too seriously honestly on that site. For example, Lexington Law just told me of a collection agency that dinged my credit this month. CK hasn't yet. Every day counts in challenging random agencies who try to extort you - even for $50 like this one is! The quicker you can go "get off my lawn and prove I owe it!" the quicker they'll run for the hills.

CK told me my credit score was like 625 when I was going to buy a car. Went to the dealership....it was 40 points less!

I can't trust CK. Maybe you can.

I called Privacy Assist and they said they are not aware of any such things. Is there any specific number we need to call?

Privacy Guard or Privacy Assist? They seem to be two different things and if so, Privacy Guard probably has its own contact number.

There is no way to cancel/file a claim online, which is why I said I just Googled their number to call. I'm from Miami myself btw. Sorry for not providing a number though, here it is:

1.800.516.9561
(Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m., and Saturdays 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Eastern)

They are either misinformed or lying. Try just calling back and speaking to someone else. It'll probably help if you make it seem like you didn't know you even had the service. I personally experienced a no-hassle cancellation when I said "I'd like to cancel my service, and I recently read about a lawsuit against Bank of America that entitles me to some sort of refund, can you look into that?" She put me on hold for 2 minutes and then said a full refund of ~$961.26 would be credited within a day or two, and gave me a confirmation number. Worst case scenario, you can probably contact the Consumer Protection Bureau and have them help.

My account now says:

Attention:
The Privacy Assist® account you are currently logged in to is cancelled or expired. If you have questions, please contact customer service at 1.800.516.9561, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern.

So I believe it is going fine so far. When the money hits my account I'll post a screenshot of the refund Big Grin They said it'll take a day or two.

None really, because you pay for what you get. I know it's a clesha, but it's true.
