Bank of America Privacy Assist - FULL Refund for YEARS of Service

What's up guys. This is my first Slickdeal and I hope it's considered a Slickdeal; I really felt it was.

For those of you that have Bank of America's Privacy Assist credit monitoring service, be aware that they recently had a massive lawsuit against them that is forcing them to refund $700M+ to Privacy Assist customers. Note: If you have ever had any of their other "credit monitoring" services, you should be eligible for a refund as well.

I found this out last night when I decided to cancel the service (I was looking for ways to save $10/month here and there) and Google'd for their number.

Canceling was very easy and all I did was mention that I read about a recent lawsuit filed against them and asked if I was entitled to any refund. The kind lady informed me that I would be refunded for my full 74 months of service ($12.99/month, $961.26 total refund). It hasn't hit my account yet but I was in shock.

Just some info for SD members
There are many class suits that may you have missed out on if you did not know about them.
BOA has about 4.
Some I have been compensated for: Naked Juice, Kashi Cereal, TurboTax, Honeywell, Popchips, Traders Joe's, Emergen-C....
There are 100's of others going on.
I have got checks from these as well as many free products. (Like 16 bags of Alexia French Fries)
Some suit do not require any proof of purchase, some pay out better with proof.
I am signed up with a site (I have no affiliation, they have no referral program, just info for you guys)
IMO: Just found it to be the best and they seem to stay on top of every suit going on.
Sign up and get email updates of all current class suits.
You won't regret spending the time searching the site.
There is money in them dar classy suits!

I was looking around online trying to find other people posting about this and I can't find much, but I did come across one person that mentioned they used http://helpwithmybank.org/ to get their issue resolved. Their issue was that BoA terminated their bank account when they canceled their Privacy Assist (which alone was a big headache). From the sound of it they were able to get some hefty compensation/refund for the whole case.

I would suggest that the few of you that are having a hard time cancelling this for a refund try this and post back here with your results. It'll probably help others that encounter similar problems.

With nearly 3 million customers affected, I find it hard to believe that you guys are somehow excluded and BoA can wipe their hands clean of you. I got a full refund for service dating back 74 months; that's 2008.

ok... Just called again for the second time and explained that I read about a lawsuit and I then checked my account to see if I have ever been charged and noticed I am being charged $13. she explained she never heard of a lawsuit but can cancel my account. I say go ahead and asked when my account was opened and she said 2007! I said I had no knowledge and to please cancel. 5 minutes later of being on hold she came back and said my account has been cancelled and I am receiving a $1,078 refund in 30 days directly into the account my payments were withdrawn from! thanks OP!

50% of all bankruptcies are for medical bills. I've watched that first hand (the bills, though my mother's parents prevented our bankruptcy), unless you think it was my parents fault one of my sisters was burned over 50% of her body just before she turned four. She survived, and we stopped counting at 50 operations in her teens. Then my mother was diagnosed with a nasty degenerative illness that took roughly a decade to kill her. My dad, an extremely successful engineer employed by a multinational in management (they delayed his retirement after the first Iraq-US War due to his previous dealings with the Kuwaiti ruling family) was STILL paying off debt over a year after my mother's death, and that's WITH insurance though that was prior to Obamacare's annoying elimination of that pre-existing condition bit that nobody else had bothered to fix. Oh, and there's all the soldiers deployed in the last decade or so who also have gone bankrupt. vomit

$1,078.17? That's 83 months of service at $12.99, so you had service for nearly an entire year longer than me (I had 74 months).

That's what I'm talkin' about! See, not everyone you speak to will readily issue you the full refund. It might take a few more tries until you reach someone that will take care of it. You just need to be assertive in that you are expecting the refund that you're entitled to under the lawsuit.

So they told you 30 days eh? I could have sworn they told me 1-2 days, but maybe they meant 1-2 statement cycles. If so, my statement closes in about 2 weeks, so I'll remember to post back here when I do get it.

Ya. I was shocked that I had it since 2007! The woman I spoke to did not want to even acknowledge the lawsuit but simply issued a refund without me even asking for it. She said that since I had not known I was being charged for this service, they would issue a full refund. She also did give me a number to call to "learn more about a potential lawsuit if there was one" but she never said that she knew of one.

She did say 30 days. She gave me a confirmation number and mentioned that it would be posted to the account my funds were withdrawn from (my checking). She said it would be split up into two amounts of about $500 per deposit.

Once again, thanks to OP as I never knew anything about this. Hope to see that money in about... 29 days!! (not like I am counting down or anything look around )

I just tried calling and was transferred to 3 different people. The first rep was only able to help me if I was a current member of Privacy Assist. I am not as I cancelled the service back in 2010. So the second rep gathered info (name, address) and she searched both my and my husband's information. She was able to link us to a member ID number to the Privacy Assist service we had, but she said she could not find our names in their system anymore. I was still determined to get that refund so I kept pressing her and asking more questions and explaining that we didn't even know how or when we were signed up for the service and who knows if we were even receiving the full benefits of the service? So she transferred me to a third person. This lady gathered the same info and searched. Came back with nothing. She explained that it wasn't a lawsuit, but simple a fine that BoFA has to pay. She was asking me where I heard about it and which website. I just mentioned the LA Times article and that it was my understanding that if you were enrolled and did not believe I was receiving all the benefits, that I am entitled to a refund for the time the service was paid for on our account. She searched again and still said our names didn't show up so we weren't impacted. There was really nothing else for me to say. I may try again later in the day to get another rep who may handle it differently.

Ditto. It seems shady that the company that took the money gets to decide who they pay back.

This is very similar to my story. I would qualify to get back hundreds of dollars, but I cancelled so long ago that I don't have good records. And conveniently enough, neither do they.

It's just as well. I was already planning on moving all checking and savings accounts from BoA to Chase and retiring my BoA cards.

Give an update please. I went through the first two people but didn't get a chance to talk to the third tier and have been working today. Gonna do some more investigating this weekend and see what might happen next week.

I spoke with around 7 agents after many transfers. I was a member from 2k10. I paid around $673. They said my name is not on the refund list. They asked me call back back tomorrow. I was trying to dispute from my credit card also no luck. Is anyone successful getting the refund this much? Please let me know the process for it? Did you get a court notice to your mail box? They are mentioning some letter.

Thanks for your help
