I'm thinking in terms of future games as well, but will this 780 be able to use all 3gb?

this... that no tax is a deal-maker

on a side note, I have been toying with the idea of upgrading my beast rig to go 4K...

is this x2 about the power I would need to be looking at? 4K monitor would be 28" and 60 fps is preferred.

I just bought a 780 ti and it is a beast! It can do BF4 on ultra 1080p 80-120fps. So I imagine the 780 would be a bit less, but still a respectable card! I think newegg still gives 10% discount for bitcoin

Depending on the games you're playing, but the 780 has trouble keeping up with 1440p at 60FPS, so 4K is a definite no go if you're wanting 60FPS: http://techreport.com/review_full...d-reviewed

Not a good time to spend $400+ on a year old card. 800 series will be out in 2 months

~$700 on a GPU for single 1080p monitor gaming... really?

4K is really to early still imho. You can find the graphics grunt to drive it (usually no single card less then R9 290/X due to the Vram), but I don't know of any decent monitors that can actually drive 4K at 60 fps. Additionally, I don't think the connection standards are really ready for 4K. I think it's still to early, at least for gaming.
