NotebookCheck Review [notebookcheck.net] (With SSD)

Pros: Great gaming performance, solid build quality, amazing cooling system with quiet fans, excellent sound system, surprisingly long battery life

Cons: 10 pounds, huge, average and wobbly screen with sub-par brightness, no full SSD

Personal Verdict: The Asus ROG brand has long been recognized (by me) as the best gaming laptops out there. For hardcore gamers who don't move their laptop at all, this is a great deal. Otherwise, the sheer weight and mediocre screen are negatives to consider.

Alternate highly ranked and respected 17.3" gaming notebooks with same/similar specs for within the price range of this ASUS one:

Note1: for the following: all have 1920x1080 screens, all are 17.3" notebooks.
Note2: add $65 to any of the following to configure them with a Bluray Drive.

1.) $1133 for Clevo P170SM customizable
(Intel® i7-4710MQ, NVIDIA GTX 860M*, 8GB DDR3-1600, 1TB HDD)
-or- $1366 for 16GB DDR3 and NVIDIA GTX 870M*

2.) $1163 for MSI GX70 Destroyer (AMD) customizable (A10-5750M really should not be included here....Not even close to i7 haswell performance... gaming performance for price point makes it valid)
(AMD® A10-5750M, AMD® R9 M290X, 12GB DDR3-1600, 1TB HDD)
-or- $1229 for 16GB DDR3

3.) $1182 for Clevo P177SM customizable
(Intel® i7-4710MQ, NVIDIA GTX 860M*, 8GB DDR3-1600, 1TB HDD)
-or- $1415 for 16GB DDR3 and NVIDIA GTX 870M*

4.) $1211 for MSI GX70 Destroyer (Intel) customizable
(Intel® i7-4700MQ, AMD® R9 M290X, 8GB DDR3-1600, 1TB HDD)
-or- $1260 for 16GB DDR3

* Using removable MXM 3.0b standard video card module that is upgradeable to GTX 870M/880M or Quadro K1100M/K3100M or AMD R9 M290X, and any other MXM 3.0b standard graphics cards

Quoted these prices just now from highly reputable boutique brand OEMs (such as XoticPC, PowerNotebooks, GenTechPC, etc.). Way more vendors that sell these custom gaming notebooks than that, just go look it up.

Nice OP... Amazon price trackers show a best price of $1700 for the G750JS-DS71.

I may pull the trigger so I can game while on business travel.

Apple bashing. You're so cool and edgy.

Maybe in a decade or so a crack team of Cupertino engineers will finally discover how Asus managed to cram an entire 16 gig of ram into a 10 pound brick.

Maybe it'll be around the time when Crapple makes a laptop powerful enough run a game that isn't Farmville. Even then they'd still charge upwards of $2k.

All that power and 17" size with only 1080 resolution. What a shame.
