Is this a reputable brand? I'd like to pick up another cable for the iPad we recently got at Best Buy.

You do realize that for these really cheap cables on Amazon that just because they "say" they're Apple MFi Certified, it doesn't mean they actually are, right?

Better yet, one product might be, and then other sellers claim that their cheap knockoff cable is the same one in their listing, and so you rarely know for sure if the cable you're buying is or isn't certified.

I believe your comments/warning are very valid.

But if you do some searching on Amazon, you'll find that Tecknet makes many other products and accessories that get very solid reviews - suggesting that there shouldn't be a reason to be concerned.

This is a promotional pricing in order to garner reviews when a new product is released. If you need a lightning cable, I would not hesitate on this opportunity because the price will not last.

This appears to be a reputable brand and seller (SmarTeck).

So then what's the point of having the MFi rating system and paying extra for MFi, it the "standard" can't be enforced?

I don't need them, but for the cost I'll get a few and see.

I think what he's trying to say is that just because someone puts "MFi" on their cable, doesn't make is so. We've all heard the stories of "fake" cables or other items. It happens. And those fake cables and other items put the designation we all want to see right on their products. Otherwise, few would buy them.

I understand that as well. But if the artificial system of MFi isn't good enough to keep the fakes out, what's the point of it (besides the extra money Apple makes off of those who pay for certification, and for keeping the price inflated?)

Just because they get copied doesn't mean MFi doesn't have a purpose. That's like saying Rolex should be put out of business because the fakes are so much cheaper and easier to get...and both tell time. It's purpose isn't to weed fakes out.

If their certificate is fake, Amazon will show them the boots. Amazon is enforcing it.

I preordered this a few days ago. My feeling is if it's bad I'll file a claim with amazon. Never had problems filing a claim and then returning it for a refund with free return shipping. Plus I use my credit card in case the claim fails, they usually back me up too.

I only ordered one but might get more. $5 MFi is a good price for sure. I wish apple cables were $1 or less like microUSB but at least these are $5 and not $20 like the apple ones that break anyways. For $20 it needs to have shielding, be extra durable, gold plating, and a braided cord. Shoot.
