Newegg has a refurbished HP 17-E189NR for just $419 (Amazon current price is $659 ). This is a smart looking 6lb blue laptop with a 17.3-inch diagonal HD+ BrightView LED-backlit display (1600 x 900). It also has two USB 3.0, HDMI, 1TB 5400 hard drive as well as an optical drive (occasionally missing in today’s laptops). The AMD A10-5750M (2.5GHz) coupled with the Radeon HD 8650G (w/4mb cache graphic memory) can be clocked to 3.5 GHz making it possible to play the most current games at medium and sometimes even high settings.

I am not billing this as a gaming laptop but given the configuration it offers a satisfying gaming potential at a reasonable price with 1600 x 900 resolution compared to many 15” laptops with only 1366 x 768 pixels. In comparison MSI’s GX70 17” Gaming Laptop came in at $1,300 with the same processor (albeit a different graphics card). I almost purchased a recertified Acer Aspire V5-522p-X440 15” laptop with this same CPU and graphics card with only 1366 x 768 pixels and no optical drive for considerably more than this price of $419. It is not a touchscreen laptop but I didn't need one in a large 17.3" notebook. All in all this is a great price for a 17.3” laptop that will do just about all that you’d want it to while offering a little gaming potential to boot.

This seems like a pretty awesome deal. Too bad it's that ugly blue color

I bought it because it was blue. I'm kind of tired of the dull black colors and now it matches my blue hard drive. However, I did think the Acer was very smart looking as I have the Acer Aspire V5-122p-0681 11" laptop for when I'm on the road. The silver brush metal is quite nice but I can live with the blue HP. One look and it will wake me up in the morning.

Good price on a richland (refined trinity) APU based laptop. Not a fire sale, but good buy. The AMD APUs are excellent value for mobile gaming (and a good laptop in general). http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-...882.0.html

I have the Trinity based ASUS K55N from this $274 sale exactly 1 year ago: http://slickdeals.net/f/6208206-asus-k55n-laptop-amd-quad-core-a8-4500m-1-9ghz-15-6-1366-x-768-led-4gb-ddr3-500gb-hdd-radeon-7640g-hdmi-usb-3-0-6-cell-win-8-refurbished-274-99-ac-free-shipping?v=1 It actually came with Windows 7 (lucked out a guess). I also put an extra 8GB DDR3 stick in it for faster gaming (more memory bandwidth for the hungry APU).

Windows "hate" is awful though; I'd put windows 7 on this machine, but that involves more money Frown

yep, AMD's APUs are not the strongest CPUs out there; intel wins. AMD just has a good value proposition for the graphics + cpu pairing available in the APUs.

Does it still do everything you need it to? Email, office stuff, browsing, games, etc etc.

Then it's not obsolete at all.

I would buy this if it wasn't 17 inch. I have a trinity A10 in my laptop and it plays most games on high in 1366x768. I replaced the ram with some low CAS hyperx, and it really helped out the graphics.

Here's some info about the graphics capabilities of this notebook; scroll down to near the bottom of the page to see FPS in a few games.

All in all, looks like a decent deal.
