Even as an intel fanboy, this hit a price point that the used 8350s are going for on ebay, so thumbs up!

Good price, better than what I paid for it a few months back at MC. Good CPU for the ESXi whitebox I built.

I see that's an AM3+ socket. Aren't people moving to the FM2+?

It has been said AMD is set to announce some price cuts for the fx series as well as some new 8 core processors around sept.

This may be close to a new normal price in the next few weeks.

$152 shipped is a good price.
BUT, if you want to build a gaming PC, please go with these i5 haswell refresh, E3-1230v3 or just i5 4xxx still fine. They give better performance in gaming for just a couple dollars more. Btw, a 1150 z87 chip is cheaper than 990 chipset motherboard.
Don't just tell me about future proof or something, because i'm running a fx 8350 with 990fxa-ud3 now, so i know what i am saying.

As an early adopter and owner of 2 FX 8120 based desktops (one 890FX mobo, one 990FX mobo) I can't even begin to describe what a disappoint these Bulldozer & Piledriver CPUs are. The FX 83x0 series is marginally better but still requires a ridiculous amount of power.

An i3 3225 on a Z68 was better for gaming [techreport.com]. An $85 Xeon 5650 off of ebay with a used X58 mobo was better for virtualization, especially since you could cram 48gb into quite a number of them.

Biggest waste of money ever. They run hot and have a fundamental scheduling problem with the core modules [anandtech.com], that really wasn't resolved with Piledriver [extremetech.com].

AMD will never get another dime from me until they prove they have a design that isn't fundamentally flawed.

and look, diggin up old news from almost 2 years ago questioning whether AMD's got a future to look forward to...

lolol... how about some relatively recent news to balance it out and say that AMD is still here and mention about it's exclusive use in the top 2 gaming consoles... surely microsoft and sony wont use crap on their flagship gaming consoles, right? Wink2

i for one, agree that there are intel products better than amd, performance wise that is. but im el cheapo and im no benchmark nazi so i buy bang for your buck stuff at a performance level we need and i have both intel and amd products in our household, all bought with that primary consideration in mind. maybe, xbone & ps4 were drawn out with the same philosophy taken into consideration... Big Grin

if only, the price premium asked by intel is proportionate to it's performance advantage accross the board (i.e. in all aspects) then it will be a no brainer, but until then...

win-some-lose-some... seems fair enough to me Muahaha

slamtaz, you mean like a 3570k that sell for $150 at a few b&m stores or used for a bit less?

The only AMD processor I've bought in a while was an 8150 for $99 from tiger.

When these hit $125 they'll be hot.
On another note AMD is awesome GPU wise, minus Nvidia playing dirty with the new Watch Dogs game.
Hope that AMD does the same with mantle now.

I understand your need to defend your deal thread, but you're sticking your head in the sand if you believe this is an AMD vs Intel thing. The salient point here is that this 125w CPU with a severely flawed core architecture just isn't a good buy, period. Single core performance on FX is miserable.

As far as the future of AMD, which I made no reference to initially, it's pretty clear that balls-out CPU performance wasn't going to lead them anywhere which is why the APU architecture in their chips like A10 (and the PS4/XBox One Jaguar chips) is AMD's future.

There is no value in the FX series at this point in the game. AM3+ is a dead socket. There is no point in spending money on AM3+ especially with DDR3 prices currently so high and DDR4 just around the corner. AMD A10 is a better value.

And, to reiterate, I'm not a 'Fanboy' of either Intel or AMD. For budget gaming there are a lot of good options. FX just isn't one of them.

How about this running a linux plex media server? How's 8 core doing real time transcoding?
