Featured User's Comment: "I have one of these, and it will certainly handle appliances. The appliance dolly has a few advantages though. The strap keeps the appliance securely on the dolly so you don't have to try to lift the top to get the appliance off the ground, and it will stay put when maneuvering through your home..." - jimmyjames76

I know this is not an appliance dolly, but can you use it for that purpose?

A couple of reviews mentioned schlepping refrigerators:

I bought this product several years back to transport things. I also used it to move out old refrigerators and freezers. It's great for any and all kinds of uses. I really got my money's worth and then some

This is one hand truck that does it's job and more. I loaded two old refrigerators,I mean old, insulation soaked through and rotten,so they just about matched the rated load and with out a problem rolled'em out to my truck. I looked at several different brands and was sold looking at the features this hand truck had compared to theirs, METAL Hubs (NO PLASTIC),tubes w/metal valve stems, strong solid welds. MADE IN USA !!! This cart will be in my auto shop,so it's going to get abused. It's top quality and should last for years to come.

I have one of these, and it will certainly handle appliances. The appliance dolly has a few advantages though. The strap keeps the appliance securely on the dolly so you don't have to try to lift the top to get the appliance off the ground, and it will stay put when maneuvering through your home. The appliance dolly also has "stair climbers" which are basically little tracks so it goes up and down stairs easily. The strap is easy enough to add to a regular dolly, but those stair climbers are a lifesaver if you have to go up or down stairs. If you have a Menard's in your area they have appliance dollies on sale for $80 now too.

stairs will be the issue... these will be uncontrollable on stairs. if you're not going up/down any, just put a strap around it to secure a bit and you're good.

Yes, as others have mentioned. I owned a 3 story rental apartment complex. I have had to help my handyman who has a really nice and expensive hand truck but without "stair climbers" bring the appliances up the stairs. Waterheaters, washers, dryers, and ranges you name it. I will tell you that it is quite dangerous to go up and down the outdoor stairs by yourself. You would need another person to help you stabilize the appliances and not risk breaking or warping the appliances. Coming down the stairs with the broken waterheaters is the scariest of all. You will also scratch the backside of the tubing frame pretty bad due to needing to lean or push against the stairs.

So having an extra set of stair climbing wheels make a whole world of difference.

Securing the appliance against the dolly is easy. I bought a 4 piece strap from Harbor Freight for around $10. Yes, they really do work well.

Has anyone else noticed that the wheels always go flat on these types of dollies?

just ordered one of these 2 weeks ago when it was onsale and with coupon got it down to about same price as now. overall its pretty good. wish the bottom part where you put the thing your trucking around (if thats what you want to call it) was bigger since its really easy for big things to fall off without strapping it. Actually doesn't do too badly on stairs either. Took a huge heavy dresser up a flight easily and even with couple hundred lbs of weight this thing is easy to move around.
