I'm tempted to get this at amazon, but I think that I've read things about it coming with an outdated firmware version if it doesn't come directly from BenQ. Does anyone know anything about this?

I looked on Amazon and it looks like it comes with firmware version 1.07, which seems like it's the latest.

Edit: According to BenQ rep, it looks like the newest firmware version is 1.08. But it was released on 12/23/2013, so I would assume that it would be in most units by now (though I could be wrong). And, regardless, I'm not sure how important it is. It sounded like older firmware versions were incompatible with streaming boxes (AppleTV), but are working now. And that's really all that's important to me.

I got mine refurbished from BenQ a few months ago and it came with 1.06 ... Is there any way to upgrade it?

I purchased this during the last Fry's deal at this price a few months ago. Mine came with a BenQ remote that didn't match the pictures on any documentation I could find, online or in the box, but it works. Not sure about the firmware.

Just got the Fire TV for it, installed SPMC and couldn't be happier. Measured Gravity on the side of my house at 12ft. diagonally. Good times.

Yes you can. I don't have an immediate link for the steps but I've updated mine without issue and the process was simple. I've had this projector since it was released and love it.

Just a quick note, BenQ has a replacement model for this projector coming out on/near Sept. 1st, the HT1075. Information on it seems pretty slim online at the moment, but it seems to be just a slightly improved W1070. It does upgrade one regular HDMI port to an MHL capable HDMI port (for Chromecast/Roku stick without external power) Personally, I'm hoping it will have a slightly longer throw distance as that would work better for my home theater room, but I think that's unlikely.

Amazon has a page for it (Amazon Link [amazon.com]), pre-order price is listed at $1,199, so this is still a great price for the W1070, which is probably 99.9% of the performance of the newer model.

I got this projector about two month ago and I am using it on white wall, I was told to paint wall to natural gray flat and it may improve picture, is that right?
