I had so many issues with the WiFi on this laptop it was stressful and aggravating. Be careful and check the warranty before you buy, same thing happened with the N56JR.

Did you return it? What did you happen to buy instead?
I've been bangin my head for weeks to find a laptop with these specs sub $1100.

I couldn't recommend you anything less than $1,100 unfortunately, so I would probably take the gamble on this guy. I bought an msi ge60 in the end. There are a few fixes you can search up if you happen to get unlucky, I'm not good at opening laptops so I returned mine instead. Also bought this model when it was at $1100, so this is a good deal.

Good luck!

dell latitude 3540 at dell business outlet for ~486 after tax. the only thing that doesnt have that this does is a backlit keyboard, and less ram/hdd. and a 4200U cpu. but the cpu doesn't matter much. the gpu in either the asus or the dell isn't fast enough to be bottle necked by the cpu, whether we're talking about the ULV i5 or MQ i7

I am looking for an Asus because of the IPS screen, also with a GTX 850m if possible. What I understood from you is I should look for a DDR5 and not a DDR3.. please correct me if I am mistaken.

you're correct. check out this benchmark:

basically ddr5 is 4 times the effective base clock of memory, whereas ddr3 is only twice. surprisingly it makes a significant difference.

I would think the CPU would matter quite a bit! You're talking about a dual core with lower clock speed and a quad with higher speed. More RAM as well the 2 don't really compare and this is only $300 more. I do 3D work and graphics, so a quad is huge for me.
I probably agree that DDR3 vs 5 is a big deal but there's nothing out there with these specs at this price point trust me I've been looking for months!!!!!
