Comes in and out of stock, keep checking, maybe you will get one

Same link!!!

just keep trying, seems to be going in and out of stock
I was lucky enough to place an order but I wonder if I will get it.

This trick worked for me.
They are coming back, I just completed my transaction and got a confirmation email. I was not able to add it from the product page. Search for "HDR-CX380/B" then from the search page add it to cart.

I considered this one as well. But once I read the first of the 3 star reviews, I passed.

Canon's main complaint is battery life of cheap included battery (easy solved), but the Sony's menu interface turned me off as that is kind of crucial for me.

The Canon is 2 tiers down and it is 1 year older than the Sony.
Picture quality between the two is just not comparable. Not even close but the price difference is only $25.

I have no problem with the Canon but as far as the value for the price is concerned, I can not find anything better than this Sony at the moment.

The Sony has a smaller image sensor than the Canon. Does that make much difference in real world use? Does the Sony have better optics? I'd like to buy one of these to play around with, but am not sure which to go with.

Small sensors mean poor image quality in low light

You won't get that unless they ship it with all of the retail packaging. So if you ship it to Amazon for $212 and it doesn't meet their requirements they'll just ship it back to you.

Until you get to around 1/3.91'' low light is gonna look like shit anyway. 1/3.91'' isn't all that great either but for entry level I wouldn't buy anything less than that for occasional low light stuff. With camcorders more comes into play for handling low light than sensor size (research, I'm not gonna get into that )The choice between the the OP Sony & that Canon shouldn't be based on their sensors but based on other features such as auto vs manual capabilities, stabilization technology, video modes etc....

Yes, that's the other option. But here's the kicker. The trade-in price will lower by the end of today. So when you trade it in for $212 and they say: "Hey, this doesn't include the retail packaging and you placed the check mark next to the return option stating that you will take a lower trade in value", they will look at the TIV value on that day and it might be about $50. You aren't locking in the $170 so they will most likely give you the trade in value of that day. Correct me if I'm wrong.

That just seems like something they would do...

Can someone suggest a good camcorder for long shooting. Like 6-8 hours. It would work even if I have to connect the power cord.
