It appears that TiVo has finally decided to drop the monthly fee on the TiVo mini, changing the "Lifetime" cost from $249 to $149. In doing this, they are increasing the cost of the box from $99 to $149.

While some stores have updated their pricing (such as Best Buy), Amazon has not yet updated their price, so you can score a Mini for $84.99

Not sure how this will end up working (if there is a all Mini's purchased by XX/YY/ZZZZ and beyond are eligible for free lifetime, or whatever), but it may be worth taking the risk to save an additional $65 off the price of a lifetimed mini.

Information about the new pricing model for the Tivo mini can be found at: https://www.weaknees.com/cart/TiV...rvice.html and http://zatznotfunny.com

Just an FYI - if you have activated a mini at full price on your account in the last 30 days - call billing and they will price match to this price for you ($100 refund or a 2nd mini for $50 w/lifetime included)

Best way to go about this is to price match at Best Buy using B&H photo item since Amazon is sold out.

Tivo rep did confirm on the phone that any Tivo Mini's bought within 30 days of the promotion will get lifetime but it's probably safest to buy from Best Buy since that's the "official" deal.

Is this a standalone device? The description indicates son type of 4 channel tuner is needed. Is that true?

Yes you need to have a Tivo Roamio or Roamio Plus/Pro for this to have any value for you. Its an add on to turn your Tivo into a whole home DVR system.

So let me get this straight. You need to buy a $400 Tivo box.. and pay like $15/month or $400 for a lifetime subscription... then to stream it to other TV's you need to buy this mini box that's like any old Roku/FireTV AND pay either an additional $5/month or $150 for a subscription?

And I thought Apple ripped people off.

Seems like you have your mind made up about Tivo already, but to clarify on the Mini... you don't have to buy the box plus pay $150. The $150 gets you the box and the lifetime service on the Mini. The deal here is there is a window where it appears you can buy the box at the old price (discounted further) of $84.99 and still get the free lifetime service on the mini.

How do you know you no longer need to pay for lifetime service? The Tivo website still says you do...

Share the TiVo experience on another TV.

The TiVo® Mini is the powerful, all-purpose companion to your four-tuner TiVo DVR. Mini makes it easy to share the TiVo experience on another TV in your home. Add one or more Minis and access your live TV, recorded shows and web entertainment-all with TiVo's distinctively easy-to-use interface. Start a show in the living room and finish it in the bedroom. Or schedule a recording from the kids' room. It's big entertainment with a very small footprint.

What you'll need

The TiVo Mini requires the use of a dedicated tuner on your 4-tuner DVR to stream live TV. Mini does not work with TiVo Premiere or Premiere XL.

Very reliable blog regarding all things Tivo. Also prices are starting up update on various sites such as Best Buy and Weaknees (https://www.weaknees.com/cart/TiV...rvice.html) to reflect the new $149.99 with lifetime price.

The amazon deal is a little more iffy, as you are taking a risk that Tivo won't offer the lifetime on the boxes sold at a lower price, but to me its worth a shot for the potential extra savings.

Where did you get your information about the Tivo dropping the mini's lifetime charge?

If you account for the DVR fees and box rentals that you save on, you do make your money back eventually. On Verizon FiOS right now I'm could save nearly $40/mo if I didn't need their DVR service or to rent their boxes. I could wipe all of those off the bill and pay just a couple of dollars to get a single CableCARD. The only downside for me is that I'd lose on-demand, which I do like.

I would be all over this if you provided evidence of the no lifetime service charge for the mini
