The carrier will accept one trade per upgrade. The offer runs through Sept. 30. You can apply the credit to any Apple smartphone model.
mind you verizon is giving $200 max ,ATT is $100 better deal. For some ppl its easier to swap rather sell on flea bay or CL.
Some ppl need to put there hands on new gadget and this is superb offer for those ,just gv old iphone and get new iphone 6 plus!

Phones, available for preorder online Thursday and in stores on Friday, will ship on Sept. 19.
Supposedly, you can trade-in only in store. BUT he said that for tomorrow's preorder, you have to preorder online, pay full price, then go in to the store and trade in for credit and have proof you pre-ordered from them.

Trade-in Details
PICTURES ATTACHED for the promotional card and trade-in receipt. See the bottom of this post.

As stated before, you can print out your trade-in quote from this link [tradein-program.com]without having to wait for the "promotional code" to be emailed to you, which would be a problem since the promotional code will not be sent until your actual iPhone 6 order ships from the warehouse and the "promotion" is set to end on Sep. 30th.

I took this print out to a corporate AT&T retail location this afternoon. I did pre-order an iPhone 6, so I had a print-out of that receipt along with a screenshot of the ATT.com homepage that has the promo details about $200 trade-in credit for an iPhone 4, 4s, or 5.

The iPhone 4 I was trading in was locked to a foreign carrier (not a US-based carrier). I didn't have a SIM card for it. It also had a gouge in the middle of the screen. The back glass was mismatched to the front; I call it a "panda" phone because the front was black glass and the back was a replacement white glass. The home button also sticks, so sometimes you have to tap it three times before it registers.

I decided to go in today using the quote generated from the website since I figured that the AT&T stores would be so busy that they would be less likely to ask questions. I had a 20 minute wait to talk to a staff member. He said that the past two days has been the busiest days of the year.

When I told him about the promo, he didn't seem to know about the extra/bonus buy-back credit, but he looked at the quote that I had printed out and said it's no problem. He thought that the phone was my current phone, so he initially asked me if I want to trade it in and then use the credit to pre-order an iPhone 6 and to also buy a pre-paid (GoPhone-type) phone for $10 to hold me over until the iPhone 6 arrived. I told him that I had already pre-orderd, and I showed him my pre-order receipt. He said he'd just process the trade-in and it didn't really matter if I had pre-ordered an iPhone 6 to get the bonus/minimum credit; he just needed the promo code generated from this webpage [tradein-program.com].

He used essentially the same website on his checkout system that I had used, punched in the code from the quote, and it added a bonus $170 to the original trade-in credit of $30 (see attached picture). He noticed that the back didn't match the front, asked me about it, but didn't care. He noticed the gouge on the front of the screen but didn't care. He noticed the home button stuck, but he didn't care. He just needed the device to boot up so that he could get to the Settings -> About screen and take the IMEI number. He also noticed that it was a phone locked to another carrier, but he punched that into the website and it didn't seem to matter.

After about 10 minutes, he produced a "promotion card" with an expiration 6 months from now. He was kind enough to call the number on the back to confirm that the $200 was successfully loaded to the card.

The staff member also gave me the option of loading the credit to my AT&T account so that it would be applied to any upcoming bills or online purchases, but I declined. He confirmed that I can use it to make partial payments on bills (it didn't have to be used all-at-once), phones, or accessories, including bills for other services like U-Verse. I asked him why the quote page said "up to" $200 and he said that it just means that if the device is damaged, they don't have to give you the minimum $200. A completely shattered screen can be traded in for $0, one with minor damage only gets $30, etc. A 4, 4s, or 5 in decent condition will get a minimum $200. No accessories or cables needed, as in my case.

So after about 30 minutes, I turned in my busted iPhone 4 for $200 credit. See attached pictures.

What happened to my thread? (OkinawanMatt)
I noticed when I ran a search yesterday that there was only one thread that mentioned that there would be an upcoming trade-in deal for Verizon, T-mobile, and AT&T. The thread didn't have any information, and the first several pages (I read about 8 pages) said that you had to wait for your phone to ship to be able to trade-in.

I noticed that AT&T's partner site was giving the $200 and $300 quotes, meaning that you didn't have to wait for iPhones to ship before trading in. So I started a new thread with this specific information that wasn't included in the other thread.

So why did the mods merge these threads a day later? The first thread was a "heads-up, something's coming in a few weeks from Verizon, T-mobile, and AT&T", while my thread was "You can do it now through AT&T and here's how".

Quote from bigstrickler View Post :
Do you still get $200 if you iphone 4S screen is a bit cracked on the bottom
This is where the "up to $200" part comes in. A cracked screen means you get anywhere between $0 to $30 in valuation. You have to have a working phone that doesn't have significant damage. My phone had a gouge but they took it; it wasn't cracked.

Quote from jk0888 View Post :
Anyone know if you can get the $200 trade in if you pay full price with At&t.
The staff member didn't care if a pre-order was placed or not; he just needed the promo code generated by this page [tradein-program.com] and that the trade-in phone was in working condition.

The trade doesn't have to be your "current" phone, so you can trade in one that's lying around.

Quote from sfcas8 View Post :
Buy a working iPhone 4 from ebay for $80 and trade it in for $200?
It would apparently work as long as it meets the conditions (turns on, no major damage).

Quote from k4m2366 View Post :
Do you have to go to the stores to pre-order? If you did it online how would trade your phone in?
You can pre-order online or in-store. You can send the trade-in via mail [att.com]once you input your promo code into the trade-in website. Otherwise, you can just walk in to an AT&T store with the promo code as well.

Quote from sman789 View Post :
If we postpone to go to an AT&T store on Friday morning to trade in and preorder, will we get it first day?
It looks like your order will be delayed if you try to order at the AT&T store now, but at least they're accepting trade-ins.

Quote from stevenjchang View Post :
how does the TRADE-In program work for a preordered phone, since I have to wait until the 19th for them to ship it to me? Do I buy the phone first, then trade it in?
Yes, you can pre-order the phone now. AT&T will send you an email [att.com] with a promo code that will essentially "bump up" the quoted price to the minimum $200 or $300. But if you follow my post, you can generate your own promo code [tradein-program.com] today instead of waiting for an email.

Quote from stevester View Post :
If the credits applied for monthly balance then it's a deal.
The credit is tied to AT&T, but can be applied to your monthly balance or any other AT&T related service or purchase.

Quote from mouthforwar View Post :
Is this credit just for phones that are paid for or outside of 2-yr contract?
This trade-in can be for any iPhone 4, 4s, 5 or 5s, even the one you're using now or one that you purchased off of eBay. In fact, the store clerk asked me initially if I wanted to apply the credit towards the purchase of a new phone to replace the trade-in.

Quote from phissith View Post :
So let me get this straight, I can buy ip4 on ebay for around less $100 and trade it in for $200 credit. Can I then opt to use the $200 credit to buy iPhone 6+ at full price (minus $200) even though I am not due for a renewal?
The staff member who helped me today gave me the option to apply the credit immediately to the purchase of a new phone. Some others on this thread are saying otherwise, but the promotional card that they give you doesn't have any restrictions other than that it has to be used in the AT&T ecosystem, and the promo page says it doesn't apply towards NEXT payments.

Quote from neverpayfullprice View Post :
How will this work with pre-orders on-line I wonder.
You can pre-order first, then they send you a promo code that'll bump up the trade-in value to the minimum $200 or $300. But this needs to be done by Sept. 30 according to the site [att.com], so if you use the promo code generated by the link at the top of this post [tradein-program.com], you can go trade in your phone now instead of waiting for an email.

Quote from duanehaas View Post :
A cracked iPhone back is super easy to fix. It is honestly just 2 screws, slide off the back, slide a new one on, and screw in the 2 screws. Most ebay kits even come with the special little screwdriver.
The phone I traded in today had a replaced back, but the AT&T staff didn't care. I had a black front glass and a white back!

Quote from CeeDubYa View Post :
So how does the trade in credit work towards your iphone 6 when you preorder? Details say preorder opens 9/12, you have to mail your trade-in Iphone back to them by 9/30, then you'll receive a (insert carrier) giftcard 4-6 weeks later. So if I paid for the IP6 up front on 9/12, how is a $200 gc that I receive 2 months later paying for the IP6? Thanks
The $200 credit can be applied toward your AT&T bill. If you wont' want to wait to send the trade-in, use this link to generate a $200 credit promo code and take the phone in right now to an AT&T physical store.

iPhones are easily sold at above $200 so not really a deal just a way to sign you up 2 more years
I've been trying to sell my iPhone 4 on Craigslist for 4 weeks. I started with my city, but made new posts in three nearby cities. The most I could get was an offer for $150. The trade-in works better for me since the additional $50 can be applied towards my bill.

Quote from Demonoid89 View Post :
Does anyone have details straight from ATT, either website or rep? I want to know if I can buy a i4 on eBay for <$100 and trade it in for $200 toward an i6. Or does the iPhone you trade in have to be activated on your account?
I went into the store today and traded in a non-active foreign iPhone 4. It doesn't need to be tied to AT&T or your account as long as it's not busted and it turns on.

Quote from dankpharmacist View Post :

It can be used for your bill or towards a new phone according to the staff who helped me today.

Yes. You can pre-order in the store and do the trade in at the same time. You can even trade-in without pre-ordering, if you don't quote the "iPhone 6 Trade In Program [att.com]" and instead just hand them the generic trade-in quote generated by this website [tradein-program.com]. If you pre-order online, you're supposed to wait for an email with that promo code, but the iPhone 6-specific promo is supposed to end on Sep. 30. If you don't want to risk it, generate your own promo code and go do it before then.

My question is I can trade in the iphone 4 for $200 credit, renew my existing plan for 2 years without signed up for NEXT or changing my data plan and walk away with an Iphone 6 16 gig?
My AT&T store would allow you to do so. Trade-in first to get the $200 credit, then apply it towards a pre-order of the iPhone 6. You still would have to pay the activation fee and taxes, but you get to keep the same unlimited grandfathered plan.

My original post gave you the link to AT&T's consumer site [att.com] and to the AT&T partner site [tradein-program.com](who handles trade-ins). The consumer site still gives the $30 to $100 quote, while the partner site now gives you the $200 - $300 quote. The staff member you spoke to may not have been informed, but if you generate your own quote from this page, the promo will apply to his checkout system and bump up your quote to the minimum $200 or $300.

The actual quote from this link might say that it's "up to" $200 or $300, but as an AT&T staff member said, it's so that they're not forced to buy broken phones. You can trade in your current iPhone that is under contract. You do not have to pay an ETF unless you also want to cancel your contract. All you're doing is making it so that you're still paying for a service but you don't have a phone to use with the service. The AT&T staff member that helped me today was ready to sell me a $10 pre-paid phone off the rack since my SIM card could just be swapped into it and used until the iPhone 6 shipped to me.

The current promo [att.com] is that if you pre-order the phone online or in-store, AT&T will send you a promo code so you can trade your iPhone in at a later time. Check the AT&T website [att.com], as it now has full details from rotating banner on the frontpage. The promo ends on Sep. 30th, so it doesn't say whether the promotion ends at the time or the promo code expires at that time. If you want a guarantee that you will receive your $200 or $300 minimum, use this website [tradein-program.com] to generate your own code without having to wait for the email. You can purchase a pre-paid AT&T phone for $10 to $30 from AT&T, Best Buy, Walmart, etc. to hold you over until the iPhone 6 is shipped.

Yes.

For you guys entering your iPhone 4 on the trade in link, is it actually displaying $200?
Yes. Make sure you use this link [tradein-program.com]instead of the generic consumer-side website [att.com].

There are always rumors about grandfathered plans, but I didn't see anything in the past month that's conclusive. The silver lining is that if AT&T renegs all grandfathered plans, that means they'r broken contract - you do not need to pay the ETF fee and you can freely swtich to T-mobile or start a new 2-year contract.

Offer expires 9/30, but when I generated a quote it states the quote is valid until 10/3. If I generate a quote on 9/30, will the offer be valid for 3 weeks from then? It would seem so but wanted to confirm as I still have a few more weeks before I am eligible for an upgrade.
Quote from Demonoid89 View Post :
Upon talking to an ATT.com online CSR, if your phone does not ship by September 30, you will not receive a promo code and cannot take advantage of the guaranteed $300 or $200 trade-in value. This guy could obviously be wrong, but beware.
Quote from ManUpOrShutUp View Post :
If you get a quote online, the quote includes a statement that it is valid for 3 weeks along with an expiration date that is past 9/30. I am curious as to whether it is certain that they would refuse you the $200 with the dated quote?
Quote from Demonoid89 View Post :
Here's the rub, for most people. The terms say you only get your "emailed promo code" when your device ships. What if my 6+ doesn't ship until, as is likely, October 10th? Am I not going to get the benefit of the guaranteed $200 trade-in? Or will I have until November 9th (30 days) to get it?
I'm not sure about it, but I assume more details will emerge next week after a few business days for AT&T to prepare a press release. I didn't want to risk it so I used this link to generate a quote and trade in my phone today.

The staff member just turned on the phone to view the IMEI number. I had already taken the sim card out and he didn't test to see if it would make phone calls, run apps, connect to wifi, etc. I think you're good.

Quote from Reiniku View Post :
If I preordered from the Apple Store with the AT&T Next installment plan, can I still trade in my 4S?
If you use this link [tradein-program.com], you can trade in your iPhone. Other SDers are reporting that they don't check to see where you pre-ordered an iPhone 6 (or if you even pre-ordered). The staff member that helped me said as long as I had a generate promo code, it would bump up my trade-in value and he didn't need to check if I pre-ordered. The credit can be used for anything other than NEXT installments plans, I believe. The card they give you doesn't say so, but I'll take their word for it.

Quote from spy4deals View Post :

Yes. It let me keep my current grandfathered plan, no change other than activation fee, tax, and payment for the phone itself.

If you use this link [tradein-program.com] and get a decent staff member, you can initiate a trade-in. If they punch in the generated promo code, it automatically increases your trade-in credit without requiring them to check if you have pre-ordered. You may be able to just walk in and ask them for the offer, but the staff member who helped me just used the print-out that I took in to the store since it had a special promo code for him to punch into the system.

Really? Everyone else is saying you can use it for your bill. I just ordered a phone and was going to bring in my iPhone 4 trade in next week. If this is the case then screw it, ill never have a need for $200 to spend at an at&t store unless they can retroactively apply it to the purchase of my new iPhone.
Quote from rajulita02 View Post :
Also I just called my near by AT&T store and they said you cannot use promo code($200 value) to buy new iphone 6 in full price without contract phone... U can use it to buy iPhone 5s or towards ur bill or anything else...but no go for iphone 6
I was told that you can apply it to a pre-order. The AT&T staff member even offered, but I had already pre-ordered online. Otherwise, it can be used for bills or other purchases.

Quote from zoro View Post :
so what you saying that if i have already requested upgrade through att i can take my iphone to store for trade in?
Yes, if you use this link [tradein-program.com] to generate your own quote instead of waiting for the e-mailed quote/promo-code.

The credit can be spent on your bill, for other AT&T services like U-verse, or to purchase any phone or accessory. I believe it just can't be used to pay for NEXT installment plans.

Quote from aznminhister View Post :
Will they take the phone if the sleep button is broken?
That's iffy. Look at the picture I uploaded (receipt). It doesn't specifically say to check for the home button, but that's integral to the phone so they might reject the trade in promo and offer you a reduced price of $30 instead of $200.

If you use this link [tradein-program.com], I supposed you don't even have to make a purchase at all as long as the staff member is not picky. The staff memebr who helped me never checked my account, didn't need my pre-order receipet, etc. He just needed the promo code that was generated by the website at this link.

The trade in isn't for cash. It's for credit (like a gift card) that can only be used for AT&T services (bills) and merchandise sold through AT&T (online or in-store), according to the staff member who helped me. The credit expires after 6 months.

If you use this link [tradein-program.com] to generate your own $200 quote, I was offered by a staff member to process the trade-in first and then apply it to a pre-order of an iPhone 6.

You receive a physical promo card. Check the attached picture to this post. The staff member even asked me if I want to transfer it to my account now so that it can be a digital credit instead of a physical card. He also offered to apply it to a pre-order of an iPhone, but I had already done that.

I spoke to a rep in store just now and he seemed pretty knowledgable. He said they use a calculator to find out how much credit you can get. He hasn't heard anything about $200 credit yet for an iPhone 4, the calculator came up with $50 for an iPhone 4 32gb. Can I please count on my fellow SD'ers to ask their local reps as well?
Quote from Gambit. View Post :
So we'll be getting the promo code after the phones ship. I wonder if we can still do the trade-in in-store though. There's no special promo link you're supposed to use to buy the iPhone 6 so you're fine if you just ordered any smartphone (aka iPhone 6) with Next or a 2-year contract from AT&T.
Quote from Knighthawke View Post :
Was on a chat with an AT&T rep just now about another issue...and I started talking about the iphone 6 and selling my old one..and she mentioned that AT&T was doing a "BuyBack" for iPhones and I would get around $200 for mine.

Nice I am still waiting
Quote from jrec15 View Post :
Just to clarify, has anyone received the trade in promo email? I got the order confirmation but nothing about the trade in promo.
You won't get the emailed promo code until the iPhone actually ships next week or later. Instead, check this link [tradein-program.com] to generate your own quote to print out and take into the store. If you answer any of the questions by stating that the phone is inoperable or cracked, you won't get the minimum $200 or $300.
This wiki has been updated.

Be careful with this promotion when ordering upgrade that is on backorder. My iphone 6+, ordered 9/15/14, will not ship until November and AT&T sent wrong promotion email ($200 off ATT Ipad) not the one everyone here is trying to use ($200 gift card). You're supposed to get an email letting you complete trade in. Then your supposed to get an email when your upgraded phone ships.

How to pay AT&T Bill with trade-in promotion card:
1. Go to www.att.com/tradein to verify you do have the amount of credit you want. In my case, $200.00
2. Log in your AT&T wireless account and choose "New Promotion Card". Enter the card number and expiration date in the pop-up windows. After confirm, you get a new "empty" slot with no name. In my attached figure, which I took AFTER I finished the payment, it shows "true, 0" now; but, when I was paying, it showed empty instead (you will understand what I mean when you try. Just don't be confused by the blank slot and don't change to other payments). Just click continue. In the next screen, you can see it is charging to the promotion card. Then just click submit.
3. Go back to the www.att.com/tradein, you will see the transaction. I attach a screenshot as well.
Final note: You usually have a credit card like Chase Ink give you 5% points on wireless bills, so you forfeit the chance to earn cash back by using the promotion card. But for me, I don't have other way to spend them.

Just realize any subsidized phone like iPhone 6 - or iPhone6+ is $40 versus $15 for BYOD on ATT Family Share 10GB plan.

That is $25 month after month forever extra or $300 extra per idevice per year

Well, let's not get carried away. Verizon has its faults, but they're certainly not as awful as AT&T - the same company that called me today trying to get me to abandon my 100mb internet service for their "superior uverse" system - at 3mb. The parent company is uncompetitive in all areas of tech now and completely clueless.

Let's try to keep it about the deal and not turn this thread into another carrier debate.
The whole 'my carrier is better than yours' debate is so subjective and pretty much pointless as service and coverage varies wildly depending on what part of the country you live in.
