add: Amazon Customer Questions & Answers

Q: What rating does the power supply have? I have heard around 460 watts. Can anybody confirm?
A: This model XPS does in fact have a 460W power supply (confirmed visually) and provided the 6 pin connector to power my MSI R7770 video card upgrade.

Q: does this product support VGA monitor, thank.
A: The back of the computer has HDMI, DisplayPort and DVI adapters. You can use your VGA monitor with the purchase of an inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter. You can find them on Amazon for under $5.00. Just type "DVI to VGA" in the search bar and look for one that has the correct gender for your VGA cable. The DVI side of the adapter needs to be male to go into the female adapter on the back of the computer. You could also get a DisplayPort to VGA or HDMI to VGA adapter, but they're a bit more expensive and don't really provide any other benefit.

Q: up as I can expand Ram memory in the future?
A: Yes. The XPS X8700 will accept up to 32 GB of RAM--I'm currently running 24 GB on mine. I just pulled the two 2 GB sticks and installed two 8 GB sticks of RAM.

Unfortunately most of us have to pay tax at Amazon at this point...

Otherwise, seems like a good deal. Amazon GC is as good as cash for many people.

It would have been a better deal if it were $690 without the GC.

Would have been better if this was $599 with a $300 Dell.com Gift card like they've been doing with many of the TV's.

Wow.....what a crappy card! I bought the refurb XPS8700 deal back in June for $535 and while it only came with an i7 4770 amd 8GB ram, it at least had a GTX 645. Everything else was the same.

is this good enough for light gaming ?

this is tempting to start with for a gaming machine. it sounds like to keep up with the latest games on high settings, would probably need to still add a a new gpu, and probably a psu to support it.

i've been starting to shop for a gaming desktop, and it seems like it always ends up close to the same price altogether after piecing good parts together or buying a prebuilt one with similar specs but maybe some weaker components on a deal and having to add a gpu/psu.

Yes, though you can get some decent gaming done if you pop a ~$100 GTX 750 or AMD equivalent card. The 460W PSU should be able to handle any card that only requires 1x 6/8-pin PCIe power connector.

this wont play stuff like BF4, bioshock infinite, bat man games on high settings in 1080p above 50 fps if that.

If you added in a nvidia 750ti it would be better then a ps4 or sbox one. but thats another like 150 dollars or so. but, there is the 100 dollar amazon GC.

However, still cheaper (maybe only slightly) to build your own. This does seem like a decent option for those who don't want to go that route and just buy a 750ti and plug it into the PCI-E slot.
