I was stupid and missed out on the ASRock H97M Pro4 / Intel G3258 deal a few weeks ago. This Foxconn MB is $10 cheaper.

I bought two of these deals anyways for my HTPC and spare parts.

Update: comparing features of ASRock vs. Foxconn boards:

Audio:
-ASR has 7.1
-FC has 5.1

NIC:
-ASR has Intel
-FC has Realtek

SATA:
-ASR has RAID
-FC (manual states) has RAID and SATA Express

Multi GPU:
-ASR supports Cross-Fire
-FC does not support multi GPU

The manual barely mentions RAID so I would agree with you but there is a RAID driver so I'm not certain what to make out of that.

The H97 chipset [intel.com] has RAID support built in. After looking at the manu. pages, they both in fact support RAID.

I must have missed it on my first pass of the manual. The PDF does, indeed, say:

"[RAID] - When you enable RAID, it means all your SATA drives must also support AHCI."

No mention of what RAID levels, tho. I only imagine 0/1/1+0.

I'll correct my original post.

how is OC with the H97 chipset ? I like the budget friendly of this processor but wondering if I need to OC it . I mainly do light programming, image processing and some game.

Uncertain that it does overclock at all. Last BIOS update was in May. Most of the vendors sent out updates in July/August which allowed for overclocking on the non-Z boards.

Maybe TrevorK, has something to say about it.

The Intel information on the H97 chipset indicates that it has Intel® Rapid Storage Technology. As a footnote, the H97 chipset specs indicate that Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) requires the computer to have an Intel® RST-enabled chipset, the RAID controller in the BIOS enabled, and the Intel RST software driver installed. Please consult your system vendor for more information.

For the best reliability, Intel Rapid Storage Technology RAID support includes the following levels of performance and reliability:
RAID level 0 (Striping)
RAID level 1 (Mirroring)
RAID level 5 (Striping with parity)
RAID level 10 (Striping and mirroring)

OOS already. This is just a 2 day blow out so it is gone forever.

Just ordered at 3:45pm EST. Nice deal!

EDIT: If you look at the motherboard listing by itself, it says OOS. But the combo (link in OP) shows as in-stock and lets you order.

Um.. ok.. These Vrms are completely bare... no cooling whatsoever.. basically, this was never meant to overclock anything.. even if with a new bios it can.. just not part of the design..

be real careful...

You're right. Do you think adding some heatsinks would help?
