MSI Radeon R9 280 3GB Graphics Card at tigerdirect for 160 after rebate, and that has no tax for CA residents.

This card is actually 150$ after rebate when you use the 10 off 100 coupon.

These single fan models tend to be pretty loud correct?

Do you know if these have the same PCB as a 7950?

I owned this card, used with a cooler master case. Fan kicks to 70% under load. Really not that loud, heatsink takes care of a lot.

I have the HIS 7870 with the same cooler/fan setup, well actually 2 of them in xfire, and no, they are not loud. Of course, that is a subjective statement, but I run 1440p and rarely (never) see these go above 62C. As a result, the fan speeds are really kept under control. Even if I manually crank the fan speed up to run cooler, the noise isn't an issue.

As to skyywalkr, I have never seen either card kick to 70% under load, so maybe that's a case issue? OC? Who knows. I run a LianLi case with pretty good airflow so I'm sure that helps.

These are the same as 7970s (well close enough). You can actually crossfire with them still. They tend to be more energy efficient.

The R9 280 and 7950 will crossfire together just fine. I prefer a single card solution when possible so I picked up a used R9 290 on ebay for $200 rather than crossfiring with my 7950 3GB model, but you'd definitely get a performance upgrade by adding this 280 with your 7950.
