Anybody have some sort of plan for getting all your money off these AMEX or VISA gift cards we get around the holidays? I think they're a pain in the butt. I always get stuck with 2 or 3 bucks on them that I can't use. Anyone know of a trick for transferring the remaining balance into a checking or savings account?

im pretty sure the rules on the back of hte card say that you cant trade it in for cash or the likes. one way to use it is to find out how much is on it, and then go to a store to buy something and tell them to take whatever's left on it specifically, and then say that ull pay the rest with cash or credit.

I can use AMEX card at walgreens. I even can use only $0.13 left in my AMEX gift card. Walgreens will let you use like their gift card. I use 3 AMEX gift card in one transaction.
eg. I need to pay $5.
My 1st AMEX card has only $1.1 left. 2nd one has $2.4 & the third one has $1.5 left.
I can swipe all these three cards in one transaction. The machine will automatically know the remaining balance of your AMEX gift card balance.

If you've nothing to buy at walgreens, I don't know how to solve your problems.

Thanks for the suggestions. I found out the balance online and used them to pay off some ebay fees i had. If anyone wants to know, Ebay will accept a credit card for fee payment and let you specify any amount to pay. I got rid of the 3 less than $4 card balances and I can sleep much better at night Smilie

I usually use them for buying Wally gift cards when I first get them. Always nice to get gas or stuff lol.

The easiest way is a service http://www.cashfromcards.com. You can take any Visa, Mastercard, Amex, or Discover gift card and transfer your balance (minus a service fee) to PayPal.

Minimum Amazon.com giftcard value appears to be $5. So doesn't work if you have less than that on your card Frown
